So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Serenity Retreat is the result of a defining moment in my life. While praying on the back of a motorcycle and watching the sunset, God planted a vision in my mind to create a place where people could be healed. It would be more than a healing center operating out of a church. It would be a pastoral place, a country retreat for the suffering to get away, a rural sanctuary where they could get to the bottom of what’s driving them and find peace and a release from whatever they were dealing with. This vision was the catalyst for Serenity Retreat.
In May, 2000, we opened in a small space near Hobby Airport until the money was raised and the land acquired to realize the vision for a country retreat, Through a little paint, a little plaster and a great deal of faith, our healing space was born.
Seventeen years later, we have provided 17,000 free appointments, with amazing results! People are getting over depression, anxiety, anger issues and troubled relationships.
Has it been a smooth road?
The first three years I took no salary, and had to learn how to run a non-profit corporation with absolutely no experience. I was in school getting a master’s degree and raising teenagers. How we ever grew is a mystery to me!
Seven years after opening, a generous couple donated acreage for the country retreat, but the surrounding neighbors were suspicious of us, and did everything possible to run us out of the area.

We specialize in Transformation Prayer Ministry. It’s a great alternative to traditional counseling and psychotherapy, because it depends on God to bring the change rather than us trying to make it happen. You don’t have to be religious to benefit.
The results are what we are most proud of:
Depression: 40% of those suffering from depression were free from their depressed state following three or more ministry sessions.
Anxiety: 76% of those afflicted with anxiety reported a reduction in their symptoms after three or more ministry sessions.
Anger: 100% of attendees reported improved relationships when anger was a factor.
Relationships: 66% of those troubled by strained relationships reported a positive change, while 40% indicated improvements in their marriage.

AMAZING HOUSTON! I am a native (ok I was born in Dallas and moved her when I was 2) but I’m 60 now.
We have a huge diverse melting pot of people of all kinds, and this is an amazing place to do business.
