FDI was started in 1996 by Bill. He started his career as an Art Director for a number of Chicago based companies. Bill left the corporate world to launch FDI Creative in 1996. FDI was one of the first companies in Chicago to offer professional website design services. In those days, there was no such thing as a smartphone and computers had not yet made it into every home. Internet service was still “dial-up” and the most popular web application was still “America Online (AOL).
Over the years, Internet usage skyrocketed and FDI Creative was there to service the growing number of companies that were looking to make their mark on the web. In 2006, FDI moved its corporate offices from Chicago to Houston Texas. Over the last 12 years that FDI has been in Texas, they’ve experienced rapid growth and their Team is constantly expanding.
Or service offering has grown from simple websites to full web applications including shopping cart, mobile apps, web marketing and much more. They now service over 1000 accounts worldwide. They love helping small business people grow their businesses online.
They have helped organizations like MD Anderson, Rice University, The Discovery Channel and many small businesses accomplish their online goals. Looking to the future, FDI is continuing to innovate and stay on the cutting edge of technology. They have many exciting new projects in the works that combine video, social media, and advanced search engine placement to help Texas companies stay ahead of global competition. They can’t wait to see what the next decade of serving Texas companies will bring.
Has it been a smooth road?
In any company, you will experience growing pains. Employee issues, regulation, and building internal infrastructure are just a few of the hurdles that companies experience when enjoying rapid growth. FDI is no exception. The benefit of starting a company from scratch that has now existed for over twenty years is that we can take all those experiences and offer guidance to new startups that reach out to us for help. We spend the time necessary to learn about their dreams and goals and then provide the tools to accomplish them.

Our Art Department is creative and second to none. We are known for creating visually compelling websites that tell our clients story. We are not looking to be the largest cookie cutter website provider in the world.
We actually enjoy what we do, so we spend the time it takes to do it right. This means we may not be for everybody and that’s ok. We’re looking for clients that understand the difference. One of the things we are most proud of is that we retain our clients for a very long time. We have many clients that have been with us from the very start. Having clients retain your services for over 20 years is something that is more precious to us than we can ever say.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
We moved to Houston over a decade ago. The reasons were that, first off, I would never have to shovel snow ever again. More than that though was the positive business climate that we enjoy here in Houston. Low taxes, affordable housing and the lower cost of living than living in Chicago. Houston also has this unique friendly vibe about it.
I have met some of the greatest people I have ever known in Houston. My Texan friends have told me many times, “Bill, even though you weren’t born here, you got here as fast as you could.” It’s true. I’m proud to call myself a Houstonian, even though I wasn’t born here I consider Houston my Home and would recommend it to anyone who would want to move down, (as long as they didn’t plan on changing anything).
