Art & Life with Tomas Fierro

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tomas Fierro.

Tomas, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
My art career started when I signed up for the “Draw Me” turtle found on the last pages of magazines.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I have always not tried to pigeon hole myself throughput the years of creating art. When I first started painting I was highly influenced by the “Surrealist” movement. Dali spoke to me. I found a common path in his work and tried to emulate it as best I could. I fell in love with Van Gogh’s technique and compositions. I then moved on to “Pop” art. Warhol fascinated me with his vibrant colors and choices in subject matter. After that I found Pollock. I never understood why he was so anguished, but he was readily capable to put to canvas.

At this point I kind of take from all of the above and mash them together. A lot of my new work is inspired by social media and the politics we have cornered ourselves into. I believe that art moves societies. I believe that artists have great influence over our emotions. I try to invoke emotions in my artwork. I mostly try for dark humor.

Any advice for aspiring or new artists?
