Today we’d like to introduce you to Amir Diamond.
Amir, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I viewed the start of my radio journey as an accident, but now I know that it’s always been what God has wanted for me. His plan is greater than ours. I was originally an English Major at University of Houston, because my mom wanted me to be a teacher. However, I didn’t find joy in it. That was her dream for her son; not mine. I tried switching my major to become a Theater Education Teacher, but the program wasn’t being offered at the time. When that happened, I had the bright idea to follow in both of my parents’ footsteps. My mom and dad have had extremely successful careers in this business. I’ve literally grown up in the studio, but it never crossed my mind that I should take a stab at it. I’m glad I did. 🙂
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I am a conversationalist. I am an entertainer. I am an actor. I AM A REAL PERSON!!! I am a Prince. I am a man of God. Yes, I’m an on-air radio personality, but I shine when I get to talk to people. I love learning about others. I like trying to understand how situations have made us into who we are today. The ultimate goal is to inspire, entertain, encourage & inform. “Live this Dream, baby” and never let someone steal your shine.
What would you recommend to an artist new to the city, or to art, in terms of meeting and connecting with other artists and creatives?
APPRECIATE THE LONELINESS. This business is not about making friends. Stay to yourself. Keep your circle small and tight-knit. Focus on keeping the relationship with your family strong. When I’m not interviewing celebrities or hosting the most talked about events, I’m spending time with my loved ones. They are the only ones who will be here when the 15 minutes of fame fades away.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
Please tune into 92.1 Radio Now from 7PM – midnight and spread the word to everyone you know. Tell your friends, family, co-workers, classmates, and most importantly…. tell your Uber and Lyft drivers about us! Lol SERIOUSLY. Let them know that this is the best station in Houston and they need to have it programmed if they want a good tip. Also follow me on social media @TheAmirDiamond to keep up with my every move.
