Today we’d like to introduce you to Giavonni French, .
Giavonni, , we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
My name is Giavonni French, I a single mom to two awesome little boys and I make beautiful things.
I have always had a unique I when it comes to art and it has been a part of me as long as I can remember. I have been drawing and sketching since the second grade.
I have always had a sketchbook or was painting or crafting something. I continued to pursue art as a hobby and even took some art course in college to go towards a minor.
I began designing small things like cards and graphics for others in college for some extra cash and didn’t get serious about it until I started working in the corporate world after graduation. I noticed that people really liked and appreciated my work and decided to start my business in 2015. I work on my dream part-time while working a full-time job during the day and was unexpectedly laid off that in the same year. And just like that, I became a full-time entrepreneur, I was fulfilled had several clients and really enjoyed being able to use my creativity full time. That was until my oldest son was diagnosed with autism, his diagnosis affected me severely and caused me to focus all my time and energy on finding treatment to manage his special needs.
My business began to suffer as well and I became depressed and stop taking clients to focus strictly on his needs. And then one day in 2017, i realized I had enough, I no longer wanted to live day to day not doing something I loved and started designing again. I started very slow maybe one project every other month to once a month to a couple of projects every month to find my rhythm again. I began to realize I don’t have to sacrifice my dreams for my family and it’s completely possible to do what I love and give my sons the best care possible.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I would consider myself a jack of all trades, I can create just about anything using a variety of mediums. I combine all of those skills to create unique works of art for my clients. My business specifically focuses on graphic design with a specialization in social stationery. I design stationery suites for all occasions from birth to death. I typically am given a theme from a client, sketch everything on paper and then digitize elements of that design via computer and then build the rest of the design on the computer. I then take finalized design print it and embellish with a combination of unique items such a fun printed papers, handmade envelope liners, jewels, and flowers etc. I like to push limits of design taking cues from what trending in fashion, and put my own unique twist on it.
I am typically inspired by nature, a lot of my recent work takes elements from whats around us whether it’s the different hues in a sunset or children playing in the park, I can always pull the beauty from whats around us, I like my work to seem light and airy with bold pops of color.
I want people to appreciate to the beauty of what I try to create. I like to challenge my clients to push the limits of their theme and try something different or unusual. I would people to think my artwork is beautiful, that I take a lot of time to create unique pieces that can be enjoyed for years to come.
What do you know now that you wished you had learned earlier?
Don’t be afraid to show your work. Don’t hide your gift. Take every opportunity to showcase what you are working on and let others view and appreciate what you create. You can have it all, you don’t have to sacrifice your dreams when life throws curveballs at you, just learn to balance. And as for lessons I wish I learned early, its okay to put yourself out there, don’t let the fact that you may be shy or introverted block your potential blessings.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
