Today we’d like to introduce you to Verda Carr.
Verda, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
After a few short years of blogging & hosting internet radio shows, former indie label VP and philanthropist; Verda Carr is now Co-owner of 2 of the hottest on the web. The Core94 and Core713 are Houston based online radio stations that are dedicated to playing local, regional, and international hip-hop and R&B – 24 hours a day. Tootie Wootie aka “the underground historian,” is known for being the voice of and providing a platform for many up and coming artists. As far as philanthropy goes, she is usually rounding up volunteers to help her support a cause for a friend or spreading awareness about her own event. Tunes 4 Autism is a charity concert benefiting a local agency that aide’s families and individuals dealing with autism. The concert is usually held in April in observance of Autism Awareness Month, and the proceeds benefit Avondale House Houston
When she is not being an assisting Lavish 28 (CEO) of Hustla Vision Ent., curating events, interviewing, or volunteering she’s probably cooking or posting selfies with one of her 3 children. Family means a lot to her and she takes every opportunity to dote on her children.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I’ve always had a passion for breaking/helping underground artists. There’s just something about the drive and hunger at that stage that’s amazing. Being in radio has allowed me to help provide a platform for them as well as a provide place where they can feel at home. I am proud of the girls I co-own the station with, we’ve surpassed the expectations of many, all while staying true to our mission.
What do you think it takes to be successful as an artist?
To be successful you have to work hard, have thick skin, and be genuine. I think we all have different views of success. I will consider myself successful when I am able to provide for my parents and children and genuinely contribute to their well-being.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
