Art & Life with Jeremy Paul Bentulan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeremy Paul Bentulan.

Jeremy Paul, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
My journey came from music. When I was younger I always loved to sing which led me to learn how to play multiple instruments such as the piano, bass, electric, and acoustic guitar. I was writing my own songs, playing open mic nights around Houston & in the Sugar Land area, and recording covers for my original YouTube channel. I began creating visuals to go along with my guitar covers with the help of family & friends and decided it was time to increase my production value by purchasing my first DSLR camera – the Canon Rebel T2i. Every day I would spend hours trying to learn anything about video: camera settings, framing, techniques, different gear, everything that would help me increase my product as a whole. As I learned more about video I began taking more pictures and ended up learning just as much about photography. I realized that creating, sharing, & story telling was always in me and it became clear to me when I created my brand (@jeremypaulvisuals). Expressing stories & feelings through the power of music connected me to wanting to invoke feelings & emotions through a different medium – my lens.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
My primary art form is cinematography. With my Canon, I can capture moments that will be set in history in some way. I believe moving imagery, if shown a certain way can make an impact to so many people. I want to create pieces that inspire all generations to chase after what they love doing. Growing up in an age where it was not practical to follow a passion really hits home for me, so I want to create videos & take pictures that enable action and light a fire in the eyes of the go-getters. I don’t only do this for me, but for the amazing creative community we have here in Houston. I want to help pave the way for unique individuals, to showcase their talents & dreams, and hopefully make a lasting impact on someone’s life.

What responsibility, if any, do you think artists have to use their art to help alleviate problems faced by others? Has your art been affected by issues you’ve concerned about?
I believe the role of an artist is needed now more than ever. With everything that is going on we need to stay true to ourselves, inspire others, & share our knowledge to do our part in the community. I’ve hosted a local networking event for creatives and felt our community come together and was amazed with how Houston continues to push art and support each other, they trusted in the process and believed in what we could accomplish. Being connected through the internet has also helped us provide free information and build relationships that would otherwise not exist. I am so grateful to live in a city where art is embraced everywhere I go, from murals on the sides of buildings to art pieces on the road, we have it all.

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
