Today we’d like to introduce you to Nathan Berry.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Well, it all started when my parents gave me a little “point & shoot” camera when I was about 7 years old – and from then I never put the camera down. I’ve always had that “artist gene” in me, you know? My parents both work for themselves, and my mother specifically is extremely talented painter. She taught me basic composition, color, and how to put your own spin on whatever you’re creating. As a child I sketched, painted, wrote stories, and even played guitar and piano – and eventually photography and videography. I tried it all! It’s been a fun journey. Flash forward to today, and I’ve continued to grow my craft and give value to others through my work.
Please tell us about your art.
So, everyone has a unique story, right? My story is going to be different from yours, and therefore if I wanted a photoshoot done, or a video about me, it will inherently look different than what you would have done. Essentially, I’m in the people business. I capture images and shoot videos of people that reflect their individual and unique personality. I’m continually inspired by the clients I get to work with and what they offer this world, and I think the world needs to be more inspired too – wouldn’t you agree?
I shoot professional portraiture (headshots, couples, seniors, weddings, etc.), as well as event and branding photography. I also shoot video for brands that want to have a better social media presence online. If I can capture your story and promote stories that matter and better the world – then I’ve done my job, and I’m truly following my passion.
Do you have any advice for other artists? Any lessons you wished you learned earlier?
Absolutely. If I could go back in time and tell my younger self anything in relation to being an artist, it would be this: If you know that your passion is to be an artist in this life, don’t ever give up. Try new things, expand your realm of what you know about your craft, and don’t take advice from people less successful than you. (Yes, that’s from a Kanye song.) And especially, ESPECIALLY don’t let people tell you that you can’t do something – because they’re flat-out wrong. All they’re doing is pushing their own negativity that they’ve accumulated and trying to bring you down to their level. Be better. Be more and prove them wrong.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
I have a few different places! As I’ve said before I have that “artist-gene” so I don’t just do photography. Besides following my portfolio on my website and social media (listed below).
– You can check out my YouTube, which has behind the scenes Vlogs, short films, branded content, and more! (Nathan Berry Productions)
– Also, I haven’t told many people this, but the Podcast is happening soon. Very, very soon. It’ll be focused on interviewing uniquely talented artists and people that inspire me, and how they’re impacting the world around them. Along with, you know, anything else I want to ramble on about. It’ll be a lot of fun.
