Check out Juan Carlos Villegas’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Juan Carlos Villegas.

Juan Carlos, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
Born in the city of Cali, Colombia, on May 25th, 1987. Coming from a family of entrepreneurs, artists, and musicians, I quickly started developing an interest in the arts. In 2005, after graduating from high school I moved to Texas, U.S.A. To pursue my journey in art. In 2010 I graduated from Sam Houston State University with a bachelor of Fine Arts, focusing in Drawing and Painting. Since then, I have been showing my work around the state, developing my style and my message as an artist.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
My work consists of dreamlike images in which fantasy and reality meet, time and memory shift, and finely depicted everlasting compositions are captured to invite the viewer to step into higher consciousness. By applying a poetic and often metaphorical language, I want to seduce the viewer into a world of ongoing equilibrium where intervals of allegories articulate the streams of the human condition.

Psychology and politics play a big role, as I like to explore human consciousness and bring awareness of the environmental and social issues we face in the 21st century. Our connection to nature and the universal energies around us are more important than this oppressive artificial system we are so desperately trying to sustain.

The sterotype of a starving artist scares away many potentially talented artists from pursuing art – any advice or thoughts about how to deal with the financial concerns an aspiring artist might be concerned about?
Nowadays it is difficult for everyone to make a comfortable living. Offering options to your audience helps when your originals are not flying off the shelves, having merch available is always a good way to make your work affordable to everyone, also offering commissions to your clients at different price points.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
People can see my work by following me on social media (IG: @villegasartist) and going to my art shows. I’m always posting new work, giving sneak peeks of works in progress, and informing my audience of upcoming shows and exhibitions.

People can support my work by sharing it and purchasing it! All my originals are for sale, through me or the galleries showing my work (depending on what they are showing) I also have prints and apparel for sale, I usually have merch at shows that people can buy, or they can do it online through my website www.juanvillegasart.com and www.radianceartistry.com.
