Today we’d like to introduce you to Silvina Hecker.
Silvina, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I was born in Argentina. Intrigue and passion for the art world were my motivation to be an artist. My first steps towards the art was in the craft world till I found the opportunity to take my first painting classes in Buenos Aires. When I moved to Houston 9 years ago decided to formally engaged in my Art education and join the MFAH Glassell School of Art. Last May I got my Certificate of Achievement in Painting. Currently I am part of the Block Program at the MFAH Glassell School of Art.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
My work is about human communication. I explore the tantalizing world of the specific language call Refranes -Proverbs and Sayings – through the use of bold colors, odd shapes and unexpected texture. I think there is this sort of magic in the world of art that no matter what language you speak a work of art could be understand if you have the desire to do so.
My paintings evolve in this unsophisticated, if you will, but fascinating unique image that only wait for the glance or a smile from the viewer. About the process I am mixed media painter using paper, acrylic, or oil on Hand-Dyed unstretched canvas or stretched canvas.
What responsibility, if any, do you think artists have to use their art to help alleviate problems faced by others? Has your art been affected by issues you’ve concerned about?
Nowadays, definitely the role of the artist is different than the past. We own the freedom to achieve our personal goal, to make our own statements. Probably we are all affected one way or another from the events that surround us, that is the world we live in. Even though my work is about communication has no intent to represent any actual issues.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
My work can be seen on silvinahecker.com and by appointment in my studio. I use Instagram as well.
