Today we’d like to introduce you to Lawren Lacy.
Lawren, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
When I graduated high school in 2007, I didn’t have much of a plan. I took a trade course, and got my first job with benefits! In 2014, I decided it was time for me to make a career change. I had been working in the medical field as a billing and coding specialist for about five years. I was doing well and had just been promoted to a back office manager role for one of Houston’s top gastroenterologist. Even with the consistent growth in my career, I found myself feeling unfulfilled. I decided to go for my childhood dream and achieved a position as a flight attendant based in Miami. Although it was one of the most exciting and wonderful jobs I’d ever had, I had to let it go to be as present as possible for my daughter. I returned to the medical field in 2015 and was even more unfulfilled and unhappy with my desk job. My experience in the friendly skies led me to blossom into a social butterfly. I had grown to love being able to meet, help and converse with different people every day. It was something so different from the regular mundane 9 to 5, repetitive lifestyle I had known before. I began to do research on different careers and came across the real estate. I had never considered myself to be a “salesperson” but I was instantly attracted to the industry. I had to think long and hard about this one, especially knowing that it would be an entrepreneurial career. After much deliberation, I decided to stand on my religious beliefs and step out in faith. I took and completed the Real Estate course, and got my license. From there, I became a Texas realtor!
Has it been a smooth road?
No matter the path you choose, there will be some bumps in the road. Real estate is no different and is definitely a wave of highs and lows. There are good days and bad days, the tricky part is maintaining the right mindset. Coming into this business, I started off as a part-time agent. With a full-time job, I just could not find the time to dedicate to my business as needed. A lot of times when my clients wanted to tour, I wasn’t able to leave work or couldn’t get them the right resources in time. Me being unreachable caused me to lose some trust and business. I came up with a plan that would allow me to be more available to my clients and set a 6-month goal to go full time. I worked hard in that window and generated as much business as possible. My first deal closed right at the end of my deadline and allowed me to quit my job. I went fulltime and never looked back.
