Today we’d like to introduce you to Zeeshan Shah.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My journey began some four odd years back when I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s disease. Although very common today, I knew nothing of it. A mysterious rash on my face and neck every so often had me getting a thorough blood work done and discovering not only this but several other issues. The rash turned out to be due to a high SPF sunblock but in the process, I got a detailed picture of my health or lack of it!
The doctor I was seeing at the time gave me a very bleak picture, in short, there was nothing I could do but monitor my condition. Apparently, it was genetic and diet and lifestyle changes would not make a difference.
Being the person that I am, that didn’t sound quite right to me. I researched and read up on Hashimoto’s and in the process came across functional medicine. I was living overseas at the time and had little access to functional doctors, so I started following Dr. Mark Hyman’s blog and ordered a book I found online by a fellow Health Coach, Lee Holmes. Also my faith tells me to eat pure, wholesome foods. I cleaned up my diet, started working out and got in touch with my spirituality.
Three months later, I went back for a check up and the doctor was blown away by my blood work. My anti body count had gone way down and everything looked great!
I can’t tell you how relieved and ecstatic I was! I had successfully reversed my disease! I wanted to share it with whoever was ready to listen and help others struggling with their health too!
So, I started a food blog and shared healthy recipes I had developed in my own kitchen and tweaked family recipes along with my thoughts and experiences. That was great for a while but I felt like I wanted to be in the trenches and help people out one on one. That’s when I came across the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. I got my certification and started taking on clients. Today, I do corporate lunch and learns, workshops and cooking demos and continue with my 1:1 coaching.
I am still blogging and take my own pictures. I guess that’s the creative side of me that just won’t rest!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I have had to learn new things. Being a business owner you learn to market yourself and network which was totally uncharted territory for me.
I have had to do a lot of public speaking which would previously make me break out in cold sweat! So a lot of learning and growing.
I also have had a struggle with work-life balance. When my kids were younger, I was mom full time and now although I work for myself, there is still a level of discipline I must maintain to get things done. That means a lot of unfolded laundry and leftovers for dinner!
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Eat.Drink.Pure – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
My focus is on women’s health. I help working women and busy moms make sense of it all. As we enter our forties, there are many issues that crop up health wise. I want women to realize that whatever their concerns, there is a holistic solution. So, whether they are looking to manage stress, reverse an auto immune condition, lose some weight or just live their best, healthiest life, I am here to help them achieve it. My services comprise of 1:1 coaching sessions as well as meal planning, grocery store tours, corporate wellness, and cooking demonstrations.
I love seeing the change I bring to my clients’ lives and am extremely proud that I have helped make a difference. Eat.Drink.Pure is a heart centered business and relationships mean everything here!
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
The future looks really bright and busy! Lunch and learns as well as healthy cooking demonstrations. In fact, I have an upcoming workshop, “Healthy South Asian Cooking” in collaboration with Dr. Manisha Ghei, MD at Praana Integrative Center. It was a real hit last time and is back by popular demand!
I also have plans to take my practice online with jumpstart and detox programs in the near future.
The possibilities are endless and I am really enjoying the journey.
