Today we’d like to introduce you to Alba Sevadilla.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I feel so excited and honored writing these lines, I would have never imagined three years ago that I would be interviewed for my photography work, so let me tell you how my journey began. I have two boys which I love with all my life, when my kids were born, I wanted to capture every moment of them growing up and I did with a small digital camera we had , however my brother who has been a photography lover for a long time, had a professional camera and took some shots of my boys that I fell in love with and from that moment on I knew I wanted to capture special moments professionally (Thanks Jose for being my biggest inspiration!).
It took me a while to be able to afford a semi-professional camera and when I got my first 70D from canon with a 100mm lens, I went straight to the show Wings Over Houston feeling like I had the best camera and lens in the world, until a professional photographer from a magazine stood next to me with a lens that was my size (well let me tell you I am short, lol), I still remember that moment like yesterday; but I kept shooting with him feeling like I was always meant to be doing that and got one shot that it is still one of my favorites.
Two years ago, I joined the Katy Photography meetup group and found amazing photographers that were willing to help me with the technical aspects of the equipment (Thanks Alex, I will never forget!), since then, I have been shooting non-stop and I still can’t believe how happy makes me to sit down on my computer to look in detail the pictures I took. Photography definitely have changed my life from ordinary to amazing, we pass so many details that only can be capture by a lens, I wish I would have known that before.
Please tell us about your art.
I am so in love with nature and natural light, the softness and mood that brings to my subjects is unique, capturing the expressions of people especially kids are just a treat, they are so spontaneous, so authentic. My favorite type of photography is portraits, I have found that there is so much beauty within each one of us, we all have a special light and is the job of a photographer to let it shine through the lens. When I am not shooting families and kids, you will find me capturing nature in every form, I have passion for macro photography since it captures so many amazing details we can’t notice with our eyes.
Given everything that is going on in the world today, do you think the role of artists has changed? How do local, national or international events and issues affect your art?
The role of an artist and their source of inspirations have changed tremendously over the last years, we live in a global world now where we are all connected and that feeds the inspiration of an artist in an exponential way, we can see things we never saw before and reach places and people we could have never imagined seeing 20 years ago, we are in a very exciting moment in history where we all can learn from each other, we cannot miss that opportunity!
