Today, we’d like to introduce you to Ige Johnson.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’m an outgoing, lively person who loves children and their boundless energy, so I pursued a career in Elementary Education. I enjoyed teaching and I definitely adored my students, which made me stay at this line of work for over seven years. However, I didn’t care for the politics.
I was already considering whether I was on the right path professionally when the school told me that they no longer needed my service. Shock and confusion defined my initial reaction to this news, even if I had already been thinking about quitting myself. But before I left, the director told that this turn of events could actually be good for me.
And it was. It was the push I needed to pursue my destiny.
At this time, I was in the process of buying my first investment property. While doing my paperwork, I asked my friend from the mortgage company if he had a job for me and he hired me as a loan processor. When the mortgage industry went belly up in 2008, I hustled to get a real estate license. Armed with my persistence to learn the business and passion to help my clients get the best possible service, I worked my way up the real estate industry.
After working in real estate for about five to six years, I had people asking me how I did it. How did I get to where I am? How did I grow my business? How did I deal with transactions successfully? So when my business partner and I started a real estate company, it just felt right to do mentoring too. I love helping others take their career to the next level, so mentoring just felt like the logical way to go.
Today, I am training with Workman Success Systems and in the process of becoming a certified real estate coach. I’m also a mentor to the 30+ agents in my office plus my personal team at the Ige Johnson Group.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The biggest test for me was the state of the real estate market when I started. When I got my realtor license, the market was undergoing one of the worst recessions. As a rookie agent in a market where vendors and banks were not lending, it was definitely a big challenge, but I was determined. I knew that if I could make it in this market then I can make it in any market. This catapulted me into the tenacious agent I am today.
Right now, my main challenge is learning how to operate in a space with so many people with contradicting thought processes. I am a very trusting person, so I have to work to figure out who is for me and who is not.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
The Ige Johnson Group is all about empowering women. I’ve always had a soft spot for young women who are fierce, smart, and so much more amazing than the world gives them credit for. I’m determined to lead a group of women in charge — brilliant, passionate women who are out to prove their importance and influence to the world.
Yes, we sell real estate; that’s our job. But I also make it a point to keep my girls motivated and eager to get up and go. We’re just a loving group who loves uplifting each other as mothers, as wives, and as women in business. Our children love spending time with us in the office and seeing their mothers be girl bosses. As women, we have a huge impact on the world outside our own personal spheres, and I want it to be positive for everyone we touch from our families to our communities, and to our clients.
The Ige Johnson Group is also about creating an experience. The home buying process is challenging, but we have systems in place to make sure that we create an experience that’s smooth, transparent, and stress-free. We’re a happy bunch of agents, and we want our excitement about each transaction to pass through to our clients. We give constant updates and make sure that we’re always easy to reach. We even give little gifts to our clients and send them birthday greetings to make them feel like we’re family. We don’t stop at closing. Buying a home is the American dream for our clients, and we want them to reach their dreams with the best experience possible. The motto I always share to my team is, “This is their dream, protect it. Don’t turn their dream into a nightmare.”
I have two other ventures: RE/MAX Generation, which houses the Ige Johnson Group, is a real estate company with 30+ agents that my business partner and I started in January 2016. The other is Glo Beauty Bar which is a spa and beauty retreat located in Humble, TX that I started in September 2016.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, my mother and grandmother always instilled hard work and dedication in us. Though we were a lower-to-middle-income family, my mother would always save up to be able to take my sister and me to really nice 5-star restaurants. She tried her best to show us another life outside of our lower income norm. My mother introduced me to motivational speaker Les Brown and the book The Secret at an early age. They taught us to dream bigger than our current circumstances, and I am continuing to do that to this day.
