Life and Work with Shannelle (Lindsay) Strimple

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shannelle (Lindsay) Strimple.

Shannelle (Lindsay), let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I began my journey into the Skincare industry while experiencing cystic acne that came out suddenly and aggressively. It’s the worst level of acne one can get and it had spread all over my face, chest, and back, in some instances resembling 2nd degree burn like boils and nodules, rather than acne. It was painful physically and took an emotional toll as well, due to constant inquisition and occasional mocking of my skin’s condition. I struggled for a long time while trying to find effective creams, washes, and whatever new acne system popped up on T.V. with a convincing infomercial. While seeking professional help, I was turned away by facialists because my condition exceeded their expertise and turned me to a medical approach that offered so many topical creams and harsh pills to suppress symptoms, while offering no true insight into how the condition had come about or could be healed.

Being dissatisfied with the options, I decided to take a completely different path. After quite a bit of research, I found myself formulating my own all-natural concoctions with the intent to just soothe my skin because the other methods seemed futile for any long-term help, and boy did they irritate my skin! To my surprise, my skin started to calm down, I had fewer breakouts, the older blemishes were healing, and even softening up most of my scarring in the process. I fell in love with making products and ended up making a hobby out of creating custom items for loved ones, and anyone I felt could benefit.

I had often thought about being an esthetician, and I even did bridal makeup for a while and had become very good at hiding scars and blemishes of problematic skin. Makeup is an art form that I deeply appreciate and enjoy but what I wanted most of all, was to be the one to help heal it for them rather than just hide it. The skin is the bodies largest organ and it usually gets neglected until something happens topically that demands attention. Through research, I had become very aware of how damaging most skincare products are to not only the skin itself but our whole bodies. So, I set out to be the skincare specialist I wished that I had found when I was so desperately looking for help. With a great deal of support from my family, I decided to get my license and dive into an industry that had been calling me.

After training hard and working for the best spas in Houston, I decided about 6 months ago that it was time to open my own little local business and really become the esthetician I set out to be. I am so glad I did! My skincare line is blossoming and I am able to help more and more people in a natural, yet highly results-driven way. I get to do what I love for a living and I have seen it change peoples lives and the excitement that it brings me is indescribable. I know what it feels like to struggle with skin and health issues, so I also know the joy that comes from healing.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It’s not always a smooth road but, I’ve always known I was at least heading in the right direction. Like many people, I have had various struggles that keep me from a straight shot to where I want to be and I may have even off-roaded a bit, but that can be a lot of fun, too.

For any of the brave women starting a new journey, I would say, that there are often multiple routes to the same destination, so go your way and try not to worry so much about the route others are taking. Be open to learning from experienced travelers who are genuinely there to help guide you but, trust your own intuitive navigational system most of all, because you are the only one who really knows where you are heading. We are here to experience life and not always in the same way as the others around us so be gentle with yourself, learn from your previous experiences, be grateful for each accomplishment, and please, please, please enjoy the awesomeness in choosing a life you get to create. If you notice you are feeling overwhelmed or stressed, just stop and take time to refocus and find the happiness in the experience again. This is easy to do when you do what you are passionate about. I chose a career that makes me feel the most magical and when you feel it, other people feel it too!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Shannella-Bella Skincare Spa – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
What makes my business unique is my holistic approach to skin and the desire to bring balance to the body, mind, and spirit. I look at the big picture or what is going on as a whole so that I can help each person to address all the factors associated with skin health because it goes much deeper than we might consider. Each treatment is tailored to the individual and involves customized products and relaxation techniques to calm them while stimulating the skin to ensure positive change all around. The feedback I get from my guests, the most is that they feel more educated on how they can better care for their skin and that they see an immediate improvement after the first treatment. Using natural products like Source Vital and my own line, are crucial to the experience because they offer the skin nutrients and things it is often lacking to be at its healthiest. I aim to restore skin and feed it all the things it needs to care for itself without disrupting its natural functions. I am most proud to be where I am because it means having taken something difficult in my own life and turning it around in a way that has allowed me to help others.

There’s a wealth of academic research that suggests that lack of mentors and networking opportunities for women has materially affected the number of women in leadership roles. Smart organizations and industry leaders are working to change this, but in the meantime, do you have any advice for finding a mentor and building a network?
Building friendships with other entrepreneurs, happy people, and successful people is a great way to learn, network, and find mentors. I definitely have people who support me and have had help from mentors, who have taught me the beauty of believing in myself and loving myself throughout the journey.
