Today we’d like to introduce you to Ann Smith.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have always had a love for photography since I can remember but I also loved helping others which led me to the field of nursing. After college, I met my husband and we started a family. I didn’t want to let those special moments slip by without being captured, so my husband surprised me with a DSLR. Since then, I have learned all I could and met quite a few amazing people on the way. A few years ago, a friend of mine asked me to take her daughter’s senior pictures and it was at that moment that I fell in love with photographing seniors. Since then I have spent lots of time investing in my education and equipment and not to mention countless hours of learning Photoshop.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t think anything worth having is necessarily smooth… with that being said god, yes so many struggles, it takes a lot to learn your equipment, and slowly upgrade to stay current. To learn to direct and pose, to learn the different quality of light, I mean there is a lot more that goes into it than people think. But to look back and see your growth is very rewarding.
Ann Smith Photography – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I own and operate Ann Smith Photography out of Lake Jackson, Texas. I specialize in teen and senior photography. I will honestly say my most proud moments are when I see the joy of my clients face after seeing their images knowing that at that moment, I captured who they are. The world moves so fast that we often forget to slow down and I want to freeze time even if it’s just for one minute.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Oh gosh, there is actually several, but last year, I photographed several seniors whose lives were turned upside down after Harvey. And as strange as this may sound, it brought me a sense of pride that even though I couldn’t replace any of the things lost by Harvey, I could give them a sense of what a normalcy.
