Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberley Berry.
Kimberley, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
When I was 24, I met the man who started the first ATA Martial Arts Schools in the state of Nevada. That man ended up becoming my husband and together, we built the city of Las Vegas up with awesome Academies, Academies that would now be owned and operated by students of ours! Fast forward 23 years, I am the sole Owner of Belief Martial Arts Leadership Academy established here in The Woodlands, Spring and Conroe areas 12 years ago.
When I started my 6th-grade year, girls were mean! I was bullied and taunted because of a mole on my forehead. It ruined my confidence and made for sad memories of junior high school and I wished my parent’s had known about the benefits of martial arts back then. That is why I have continued on this journey, after Master Berry’s retirement, of helping children and adults, live their best life and never allowing other’s to steal their joy, feel great about who God made them be.
Last year, I became an Independent Consultant for Arbonne International after doing their 28-day clean eating challenge. I had never felt as good as I did after that detox, it changed mine and my daughter’s life! I was obsessed and I had to figure out a way to share this gift with everyone with very little time. I was always stressing the importance of good health and nutrition to my team and to my student’s but wasn’t always walking the talk with my own eating habits. Since then, I have been committed to being the very best role model I can be for my student’s and I’ve incorporated my Arbonne health and wellness business into my karate school!
At our school, our motto is ‘Every Kid is special, and every Kid is a winner!’ We are all made different and we are all unique and special in our own way and all I want is for every kid and adult who walks into my academy, to feel like a part of a family and leave class knowing they can do anything and handle any situation with confidence… conviction. I am honored to be able to share this story with others. I hope that everyone will try martial arts sometime in their life and if you have a small child, it is THE BEST thing you can do for them, and you enroll them in Martial Arts!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Last April, with very little funds, I purchased our school from Master Berry when he announced his retirement. I just couldn’t see our family business of 32 years, become another school. Although running the school alone and without Master Berry has been a definite challenge and struggle, I am determined to keep our doors open and continue this legacy we have built. I can’t imagine my life without my student’s and families!
Please tell us about Belief Martial Arts Leadership Academy.
I am the owner and operator, Chief Instructor of our Academy Belief Martial Arts. I am so blessed to have several team members who teach classes, assist with student’s needs and help with daily operations. I am so proud of my school because first and foremost, we are a big family, We encourage and support each other and celebrate each other’s victories. We teach kids how to believe in themselves and the importance of respecting other’s and we do that in a place we all call our karate home!
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I really can’t say there is anything I would do differently. Since I get a dozen or two hugs and thank you’s a day, I think that I am doing exactly what I was put here to do… have a place where children and adults can come, be who they are, and leave feeling like they learned something and were a part of a family. If I can continue to do that, I am happy.
