Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Revia.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I moved to Houston from Beaumont about ten years ago because I knew my profession (paint and body) was better paying in the Houston area. I’ve been in this field for around 30 years and have had a lot of experience with both collision and restoration. When doing restoration one of the main issues that need repair on older cars is rust and metal repair. I saw an advertisement for a sandblasting self-contained mobile unit on the discovery channel and had a lot of experience using one in my line of work and I figured it may be something that could give me an opportunity to be in business for myself so I bought one and got started. It has been very hard here in this first year I’ve sandblasted everything from a chandelier to a car to etching concrete in a swimming pool. The customers have been hard to reach here in year one but we’re going to add other services to make up for the shortage in sandblasting work.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has definitely not been a smooth road but I didn’t expect one I’ve always been told that the first few years in business will be rough and not very profitable. I feel that the company I bought my machine/ business from made it Sound way too easy so I bought this internet advertising package from them where they said the customers were endless. Not the case at all we have had a hard time finding customers. So after giving this company 4,000$ for this internet/advertising package we have spent several thousand on additional advertising and have finally got our name out there a bit. I knew being the son of a small business owner it would be a struggle to start with but I feel nothing in life worth having is gonna be easy. We are committed to making this work for us and will see it through
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Fast Blast Mobile Sand blasting story. Tell us more about the business.
What sets us apart in the sandblasting/ surface preparation field is that we are mobile and can go to our customer or our customer can come to us we have a yard and we are also mobile. We specialize in any kind of surface preparation whether it is rust/paint removal from metal or taking stripes off of concrete or cleaning graffiti off of buildings we can clean or make any surface look like new or prepare it for new paint or coating we also paint. We are most proud of the excellent feedback we are getting from our customers and that we are open 7 days a week. Our 5 star rating on google lets us know we are treating our customers’ right.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Luck really has no role in where we are in life we have worked very hard to get where we are and I feel no person unwilling to sacrifice everything should even consider going into business. I am a little bitter about this companies promises about unlimited customers and their advertising package turning out to be a waste of money but at the same time I’m unwilling to accept it as failure and will work that much harder to make this work for me and my family.
