Meet Trailblazer Lakisha Jones

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lakisha Jones.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’m a girl from a small city called Beaumont, Texas. Since I was young, beauty shops and watching other stylists to hair was like part of my upbringing. And getting your hair slain every two weeks was like being next to god. But when I moved to the DFW area, my life did a 360 turn around. And I was left with the responsibility to do my hair. As time passed, I got better and was able to be creative at the same time. Other started to notice and wanted their’s done as well. At this time, doing hair was becoming something that I really enjoyed and the extra money is always a plus. But as life started happening. reality started to set in about my current job. I was questioning myself why would I work somewhere I’m not happy and do something I don’t enjoy. So, I started looking into beauty school options because it was something that didn’t feel like work and I was happy doing, I chose Ogle beauty school. And let me just say it wasn’t the easiest road to travel, but it was the best decision I have ever made. I’m proud to say I’m a licensed cosmetologist and a business owner of IScream Beauty.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No this has not been a smooth road. And the hardest obstacle I had sucrose was dealing with the loss of my father. Advice I would give to others is life always have it’s up and downs. And you are what you make a situation. So, you have to make a choice to be positive and stay focused on your goal.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about IScream Beauty – what should we know?
I do all styles and hair types. That include Fusion hair extensions on down to rolling perms, even sale hair extensions. But most of my clients like braids, sew-ins, silk press, and specialty styles. I’m most proud to make my clients feel good and look good. And what sets my organization and brand apart from others is that I care about my clients for more than just money. I put pride and giving my clients quality services and products. And also, that my clients are educated on the service they received and the products they buy.

We’re interested to hear your thoughts on female leadership – in particular, what do you feel are the biggest barriers or obstacles?
I feel that we don’t support each other enough. I feel we should uplift our queens and be more supportive of the positive things and energy we put out.

Lakisha I am so proud of you . You have always been a talented person. You are awesome at doing hair. I watched you as a young girl do your hair, your sister, mom and friends hair and knew that this was your calling. I pray that God will continue to Bless every area of your life.
