Today we’d like to introduce you to Justyna Wołodkiewicz.
Justyna, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
It all started with a wooden jumping jack. Never mind that now, the jack is scattered all around my organic garden and the fields where goats are slowly chewing herbs. He fulfilled his mission. He inspired me to take up polymer clay and play with it (creating my own version of the jumping jack).
After a few years of adventures in polymer clay, I got a Eureka moment and incorporated embroidery into my works. I love textiles, I’ve always been, so it sort of ‘stayed’ with me up to now.
These are just key events on my artistic path dating four years back. Besides that, I’ve always cultivated art, always created, experimented. I didn’t get into art school, I studied gardening, and after a short career as a teacher (florist!), I settled down and continue enjoying art along with family life in the rural part of Poland, mid-Europe.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
All those eyes and masks and beaded dresses, abstract landscapes, colorful stitched shapes are manifestations of my soul. I make them to express myself – to communicate to the world the very good energy. What will the world do with that energy? It is up to them.
I know that everything we do in our life counts. Our life is a constant flow of energy. Every thought is energy. And also our life is a path of never-ending learning and becoming. So, what’s the point? Quality of those things – life, thoughts, energy, learning relate to my art and the message it sends.
My intention is to live fully, embracing all experiences, knowing myself, becoming my best self. Since the art lives in my heart, it will evolve together with me. The message will become clearer and clearer.
My values are simple: love, be healthy, be mindful (with a clear mind in many aspects), keep balance.
My art is often an expression of genuine joy. How can you explain that simply staring at colorful threads already brings ideas of how to use them. Creating enhances my vitality and gives a sense of fulfillment. At the same time, it seems to be pure play with the universe. That’s how I love creating.
Do you think conditions are generally improving for artists? What more can cities and communities do to improve conditions for artists?
One of the most amazing things of our times is that speed of information exchange. Of course, it has some drawbacks, but most importantly it allows people to connect. For artists, it is a great chance to find their audience in a relatively short time.
The opinion on life condition is always personal and dependent on a person’s experiences and beliefs. I would opt for getting better just in case it provokes more good and wellbeing.
The cities can focus general public attention on art (for example – the art section in the news).
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
My work is mainly on my website and Instagram account. Also, through my website, you can buy my work and support me. You can find their huge pieces or hand embroidered clothes as well as smaller more affordable – a collection of jewelry and small four-inch hoops. If embroidery is your hobby, you can buy my patterns on Etsy.
You can sign up for my newsletter and receive a monthly update on all interesting things. That also includes info about shop updates.
Every comment and positive messages are highly appreciated and support me in a spiritual way. These you can send me on my website, social media or by e-mail.
I plan to exhibit my works in the future so stay tuned and follow my blog and social media (for now, Instagram is regularly updated).
