Today we’d like to introduce you to Jan Forrester.
Jan, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I first learned the business in my family’s jewelry store years ago. We designed, produced and repaired all kinds of jewelry right there in the store. Those years taught me first hand all that goes into the design and production of custom jewelry, repairs and restoration. JD Designs Jewelers has been helping generations of clients for almost 20 years now. We love creating tomorrow’s heirlooms today!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s always a challenge to go out on one’s own. One of the most important people to have by your side is your banker, one who is your champion and has the ear of the decision makers in that bank. Mine does! Recently, I had to move my business from a street front location to an office building. This was completely unexpected. Without close friends’ and close family members’ help and support, I really don’t know how I would’ve made the change happened. It’s been 2 years now and I can finally say, honestly, I love my showroom space!
Please tell us about JD Designs Jewelers.
JD Designs Jewelers specializes in custom design and the re-design of fine and fun jewelry. We use reclaimed and recycled metals whenever possible, yours or ours or a mix of both. Non-conflict, certified diamonds, gemstones and pearls from all over the world are available to us. We especially love taking a family piece and re-creating it in such a way that it still has the essence of the original design with a new look. We work with many corporations and non-profit organizations designing and producing logo and service award jewelry. We also provide engraved and etched award items. In addition, we are repair and restoration experts for all jewelry- fine, antique and costume, both vintage and new. Watch repair, hand and machine engraving, glass etching and appraisal services are available. Customer service is what sets us apart. We hate to say ‘no, we can’t’ so we work to find a way to get it done, whether it’s a difficult creation, a crazy repair or a seemingly impossible deadline!
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite childhood memory is playing with my paternal grandmother’s jewelry when I would spend weekends with my grandparents. She would let me wear different pieces and I felt so grownup!
