Art & Life with Katie Trevino

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Trevino.

Katie, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I decided to pursue my passion for graphic design after spending five years in the Oil & Gas Industry and not being satisfied or happy with my career path. I knew there was something out there for me that better fit my creativity and skill set. While still working in corporate, I took online tutorials and classes on graphic design and started to build my business. Once I felt comfortable (or just came to the point where I needed to take the risk), I quit my job and launched Suraleigh Co. It’s been almost two years since I made this transition and I couldn’t be happier. Being able to help my clients build their brand through thoughtful design has been a dream!

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
Graphic Design – specialize in Branding and Website Design.

All of my work is digital with my client being able to use their deliverables in their online presence or printed for distribution.

My goal is to help my clients achieve cohesive and clean designs through my personal and thoughtful process. I work one on one with each client, and no two projects are similar. I adjust to my client’s needs making sure they get what they need.

My design aesthetic is clean, minimal, with a touch of feminity.

What responsibility, if any, do you think artists have to use their art to help alleviate problems faced by others? Has your art been affected by issues you’ve concerned about?
I do think the role of artists has changed. I feel more and more people are pursuing their love for art and not letting the monetary issues affect their passion. Most people today can see how rewarding it is to do something they love.

With that said, there are still drawbacks to being in business for yourself as I think our economy still favors big business. I just hope in the future more people will pursue their own art and hopefully support themselves off of it.
