Meet Megan Schneider of The Rusted Pearl Salon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Schneider.

Megan, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
After graduating from cosmetology school in 2015, I was so eager to get a salon job and learn more about color. After working there for about a year, I still didn’t feel satisfied. I wasn’t sure if it was just the wrong salon for me, or maybe the wrong career choice, – but one haircut changed everything. You never quite know what God has planned for you! That one haircut took my life in a direction I never seen coming, and now I’m married to him.

Within a few months we were married, expecting a baby, and he got his orders to deploy overseas. While he was overseas, I quit my salon job and gave birth to our perfect baby girl. In the meantime, I began picking up weddings for extra money, and I fell in love. It was like a light went off. I finally found my passion.

So in 2017, I opened my studio in Montgomery, TX. The Rusted Pearl Salon. In my first year of business, I had no idea I would be so busy, so fast! I am so grateful for all my past, present, and future brides. God had blessed me in more ways then I can possibly count.

Has it been a smooth road?
I would have to say my biggest struggle is, proving myself. Being the “new kid on the block” was hard. My pricing was lower than other artists out there. Brides are shy when it comes to cheaper artist. But, I had to prove myself, build a portfolio, and learn how to take better photos with my phone, I also had to learn not every picture you take of the hairstyles you do that day should be posted to social media. Only your best work! That advice has helped me so much!

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into The Rusted Pearl Salon story. Tell us more about the business.
We mostly go on location in wedding venues and perform formal hairstyling for our clients! We do have a studio in Montgomery for our clients to come to also. I always tell my brides ” I work for you, if you’re paying me, you’re my boss.”

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I hope to be able to hire a few licensed, makeup and hair stylist in the new year! I am working on a super cool project to bring to my clients. We are hoping to have it ready by late 2019!
