So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
This whole photography journey started after I just simply wanted to take better pictures of my growing family. I originally set out to become a teacher but knew I wanted to be at home with my littles during their first few years of life. I needed a flexible way to make that happen.
I enrolled myself in classes to learn from top photographers. After posting my pictures on social media, I soon began getting feedback from friends and family about how I should share my gift of creating engaging images with others. Let’s just say I took them up on that advice and it has been a true blessing in my life!
Today, my love affair with photography has grown exponentially because of my most supportive, humble, God-fearing husband and two beautiful little girls that keep me on my toes. The moment my first daughter was born I knew my life would never be the same. I picked up my camera, and haven’t put it down since.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It really has been an amazing ride so far. However, the struggles come with learning the ins and outs of running a business as a whole and making sure all aspects are operating smoothly and efficiently. Providing a client experience that is flawless is my first priority! I did not go to school to learn the best business practices, but so far I feel as though I have made sound business decisions and have continually set out to learn as quickly as I can! My business will grow only if I am willing to grow with it and boy, am I willing to grow!
Please tell us about MNDavis Photography.
I am a natural light photographer specializing in newborn & family portrait | lifestyle photography because I believe that natural light, from the sun and its reflections, creates photographs that feel fresh, timeless, and trust to my clients.
I love peering in on moments that couples and families experience together and I aim to freeze these moments by creating portraits that are worthy of hanging on the walls of their homes or sharing with friends and family. I love taking photographs that capture true family dynamics in un-posed, playful, and loving scenes.
What sets me apart from other photographers is my combination method of taking both posed, studio work, and unposed images in either my new MNDavis Home Studio or the client’s home.
Specifically when it comes to newborn photography (my favorite and what I most often photograph), other photographers often times make clients choose between posed studio work or lifestyle images. But, for example, my newborn sessions, I take more posed images of the baby alone on a bean bag with backdrops and then when adding in other family members it gets more and more unposed in the nursery or master bedroom. I aim to provide a great experience which then translates to the family loving their images that much more.
I really like to incorporate movement into my shots creating more natural looking images! My girls have opened my eyes and heart to the beauty in simplistic everyday moments. Those are the ones I want to capture for my clients. The way the wind blows momma’s hair, the look in her husband’s eyes when he sees her holding the life they created, or the way their children laugh running in the sunshine. These are invaluable moments- these deserve to be captured!
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
So far things have gone quite well, honestly. I have always had a creative itch and love channeling that by taking engaging photographs that tell a captivating story. But if I could do life over again, I wish I would have found my niche earlier in life. Photography brings me so much joy and happiness, and I love that I get to share it with those I love. I have finally found my road!
