Meet Tina Ozcelik of The Eye Gallery in River Oaks and Post Oak

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tina Ozcelik.

Tina, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Born and raised in Houston, I always dreamed of owning my own store. At the time, the fantasy store was a flower shop. Today, I still call Houston home and am living my dream as the owner of two locations of The Eye Gallery, one of the chicest eyewear retailers in the city. I grew up on the west side of Houston in the Energy Corridor, attending Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart and Lee High School my junior and senior year. I later graduated from the University of Houston with a degree in Biology & Physical Science. As a sophomore in college, my father – a Type 1 Diabetic – started losing his eyesight and ultimately required a corneal replacement. I was by his side throughout this time, and it was this experience that ignited a passion and directed my career path toward the optics industry.

Has it been a smooth road?
Being a small business owner, there are always going to be challenges you face. Add in being a mother and raising a family along with running a business, and you quickly find yourself with your hands quite full! Whether it’s unforeseen circumstances or competition from other businesses, it takes a certain drive to meet all of our customers’ needs day in and day out. As a competitive person myself, I always look for improvements to the business and how we can best satisfy the preferences of our clientele.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with The Eye Gallery – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
At The Eye Gallery, we specialize in quality designer eyewear by mixing high-fashion with function all while relishing the one-on-one interaction with clients to help them look their best. We carry specialty collections of only the highest quality, such as Anne et Valentin, Thierry Lasry, and Face a Face. I believe our fantastic customer service is what helps us stand out, with each of our employees ready to spend whatever time is necessary with a customer to help them find exactly what they need, taking into consideration that everyone is different. Our business is also proud to support multiple organizations involved in women and children’s causes, and giving back to the community is something we are proud to do.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Houston is a very diverse city. The global nature of Houston is what I love best about my hometown which, in my opinion, is “what makes our city tick”. The only dislike I have with our city is…well, the traffic, of course!
