Today we’d like to introduce you to Norma Wilson.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
When in college, I chose to major in Psychology and worked for a time in the geriatric field before married a Navy man and moved around the county and raised three boys. I loved new places and decorating our homes so I began to study interior design. When taking an art class focused on painting scenes on furniture, my focus turned to painting on canvas. I was hooked and knew I had found my passion. I have not stopped since and it has been twenty-five years.
Please tell us about your art.
I am a studio painter and work in both oil and acrylic. I also teach private and group classes and love to encourage others and share my love of art with others. My favorite subject to paint is animals. I have felt such a joy being around them since childhood that it seemed only natural to choose to make that connection on my easel as well. I paint many pet portraits and so enjoy making owner smile! Many people ask this city girl if I was raised on a farm when they see my cow, rooster, goat, and sheep paintings.
Do you have any advice for other artists? Any lessons you wished you learned earlier?
It’s important to first paint what you love! In doing so, I believe your passion will shine through and connect with others. If you don’t know what that is yet, paint a little of everything and it will make itself known to you.

I am represented by the Richard Stravitz Gallery in Virginia Beach and the Red Queen Gallery in Onancock, VA on the Eastern Shore. You can also visit my web site and recently, I have been having fun auctioning smaller works on eBay. Commissions are always welcome!
