Today we’d like to introduce you to C. McAllister “MAC” Vaughn.
Thanks for sharing your story with us C. McAllister. So, let’s start at the beginning, and we can move on from there.
I am an ordained Methodist Minister, and I became acutely aware that the institutional religions were beginning to lose its attraction to a large segment of our population. The focus of many of the institutional religions were bricks, mortar, money or compromising scripture, not people.
We decided that we must do something to sincerely and genuinely promote the word of God through ministry to people in the hard, doubting, and questioning times in their lives. Offering care to those who would never darken the door of an institutional church.
WHEELS offers something different, relevant and genuine. A ministry of care and meeting where people are and not where we expect them to be. Our tagline on our logo states “The Church has Left the Building.”
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We have had some anxious moments facing the uncertainty for our future and taking early retirement from the church.
We started a non-profit with our own finances and with the help of those who had the same vision for ministry as we did. We’ve had a few small financial donations but not enough to fund the ministry we still fund the line share of the ministry out of our personal funds.
We stepped out on “faith” and began our new journey. God was faithful and continues to provide us insight and bring people into our lives who have needs or have the skills sets to provide ministry in areas that we may not have.
WHEELS MINISTRY SERVICES – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
GRIEVING, DIVORCED, FRUSTRATED, INCARCERATED, FIRST RESPONDERS OR LAW ENFORCEMENT. Simply, we provide the shoulders folks need to lean on with real conversations to help navigate their lives — conversations of faith, encouragement, hope, & assurance.
Non-judgmental listening where relationships are important. It’s critical for those called to ministry to be genuine, authentic, and real with people. I was a late in life convert (38) and those who pushed, shoved, judged and showed no joy kept me away from a genuine & authentic relationship with people and God.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The way that folks are drawn to me/WHEELS from all walks of life that “confident” in sharing their lives with us.
