Today we’d like to introduce you to Bryan Lee.
Bryan, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
It all started in 2003 (age 13) when my sister Jessica Slatton invited me to be part a mural at the original Ninfa’s on Navigation curated by Mercedes Fernandez. A group of her students got together to paint a 2,440 square-foot mural. Everyone that helped got a section to paint a “window” in which the mural was called “Windows of Opportunity.” I painted a grandfather clock on mine. Ever since that day, I’ve made sure to make use of my time and not take it for granted. Time is everything to me. 15 years later, the mural still stands.
Has it been a smooth road?
I think everyone goes through hard times and because of that, it stops people from moving forward or trying new things. For me, that was the fun part. I love a new challenge and learning as I go.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Artist story. Tell us more about the business.
When it comes to Art, I don’t necessarily want to keep myself as “that type” of the artist. I try to expand my knowledge as much as possible.
My work is inspired by the people and things around me. Sometimes I like to go and explore the city. To see the beauty in the little things in life. I’d like to think my art reflects on everyday memories that truly make us happy. I’d like to call those “Human Stories.”
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
No there no telling what the future holds. I like to stay active and build things with my bare hands. So who knows, maybe own a custom sign shop along the way. Let’s not limit ourselves. I only hope to inspire others not to be afraid and to try new things. You never know unless you try. Tomorrow is not promised, so why wait.
