Meet Christine Rogers of The Social Knitwork in Spring

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christine Rogers.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Christine. So, let’s start at the beginning, and we can move on from there.
I learned how to knit and crochet 45 years ago from my grandmother in Long Island, NY and have continued to practice and hone the skill ever since.  When I started working at a dental office 34 years ago, where I currently still work, I learned that I really enjoyed counseling, teaching, and talking with people.

In 2012, my husband and I bought property in Old Town Spring, Texas, a community where we both have historically been heavily involved and worked at local shops, driving the horse and carriage, annual festivals, and even construction since the 1960s.

Opening The Social Knitwork (“TSK”) gave me the opportunity to combine my passion for fiber arts and to bring people together to teach and create camaraderie and community.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
While I have definitely run into my fair share of challenges, I would say the easiest thing for me has been staying true to the core vision of creating a community.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into The Social Knitwork story. Tell us more about the business.
The Social Knitwork is a place with a cozy atmosphere where you can take a variety of classes and workshops (all skill levels) in our custom classroom, buy high quality yarn, supplies, and notions.

I am very proud of the quality of classes offered here.  The classes are kept very small which promotes the success in understanding and retaining what people come to learn. The general feedback that I most commonly receive from people that visit or take classes at TSK is that they enjoy the vibe at TSK. I would say TSK is most known for being able to teach people that have had difficulty learning elsewhere or on their own.

While I continue to work a full-time job Monday through Thursday, TSK is only open Friday through Sunday. When I retire from dentistry in the near future, TSK’s hours and offerings will likely expand.

In the meantime, TSK continues to produce knitters, crocheters, tatters, spinners, social events, creations, donations, comradery within the community, and even more importantly, we have fun!

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t know about luck but I will say I am truly blessed.

Thank you for posting my SIL, Pat Fee’s, photo. She loved you and loved learning to knit. Wish I lived closer, I would love to learn.
