Today we’d like to introduce you to Maggie Bailey.
Maggie, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started doing flowers on a whim at church and quickly realized how much I really enjoyed it! I decided to start a wedding and event floral design business with the help of my husband (he’s our prop builder/heavy lifter/book-keeper!) which we ran from our home for a year before moving into a shared studio space in the loop. We quickly outgrew our studio and decided to move our operation a little further north- we are now based in Tomball where we have a store front for retail flowers and a lifestyle boutique in addition to our wedding and event production space.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
All in all it’s been a pretty smooth journey but there has definitely been a lot to learn and learn fast! My style of floral design came relatively easily to me but business ownership wasn’t something I had ever considered until we decided to take the leap. My biggest challenge has been balancing the creative with the organizational, but I’m incredibly lucky to have an amazing business partner in my husband, who can keep the operational side running smoothly!
Bramble & Bee – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Bramble & Bee specializes in garden style floral designs for any occasion. We are best known for our weddings and events but we also design flowers for corporate clients, funerals, and daily deliveries. We are known around town for the European-style hand tied bouquets that we offer to walk-in customers and for deliveries. Our bouquets always include unique, seasonally available flowers and lots of interesting foliage. They come prettily wrapped in brown paper, ready to be dropped into a favorite vase.
We have a sweet storefront in downtown Tomball where we also sell carefully curated gifts, home decor, and plants like succulents and tillansia. We are passionate about community and building relationships, so we love it when people swing by to chat and smell the flowers. Our workspace is open for people to come wander through and we often host other creatives teaching workshops as well as our own floral design classes!
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
What makes me proudest as a business owner and florist is the community we’ve been able to build around flowers. Our line of work intersects people’s lives in a myriad of places and the fact that we have people who we’ve been able to walk through numerous milestones with is absolutely the best. We’ve been asked to celebrate weddings, new babies, birthdays, and celebrations of life, and it’s an absolute honor every time someone wants our flowers.
