Meet Christopher Burke of Insulation Guru in Houston Heights

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christopher Burke.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Christopher. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
After 20+ years in the construction industry I decided to start and run an insulation company. At first it was just blowing insulation in attics and helping homeowners lower their utility bills. 10 years ago I met my wife by knocking on her door and informing her I was there to give her a quote on her attic insulation. I fell in love with her and I fell in love with what I do. I feel she got a really good deal. An energy efficient home and me (SMILE).

Since the beginning I’ve been certified for BPI Building Performance Institute for Building Analyst and Building Envelope, LEED Green Associate, Macoat Ceramic Insulation Certified, Uniflex White Roof Certified, Polyum Radiant Barrier Certified, T.D.H.C.A. (Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs) Weatherization Certified. I’ve personally insulated and installed radiant barrier in thousands of attics, under houses, in walls, in homes and businesses and I’ve met some of the best in this industry. I’m constantly learning about energy efficiency and energy conservation through my company, Insulation Guru, customers and other leaders and installers in the industry. Insulation Guru has installed insulation, radiant barrier and completed ventilation and weatherization for some of the largest companies in Houston and the surrounding Counties including, Coca Cola, Brick House Restaurant, Olive Garden Restaurant, Hooters Restaurant, Cameron, Energy Alloy, Kroger and many more.

My passion for this industry and the helping of lowering utility bills, bringing comfort to people’s lives and helping with poor air quality in structures is key. We’ve been able to insulate Churches in 5th Ward, Youth Clubs in 3rd Ward, homes where the families cannot afford to keep the lights on as well as giving to the community by purchasing appliances for low income families. Insulation Guru believes in giving back and helping others.

Today the Insulation guru is what I consider to be a fast growing staple for Houston. We love our City, We love our Texans, and we love our customers.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I’m laughing now as I reflect back on the last 15 years of running a company. There have been times where I have pulled over into parking lots and just cried. There have also been times where I’ve felt that I was on top of the World. Insulation Guru has been a fun ride. When I realized that I could not take care of everyone I decided to do the best I could. I remember the first customer that decided to go with another company. I thought that that was the end of the World. I couldn’t believe it. I’ve realized now that there are other companies that do what we do and that we won’t always get the sale. It’s OK. We will still strive to be the best of the best.

Adjusting and growing with a diverse City has helped along the way. I think that some of the challenges have been obtaining the capital to grow. I’m pretty sure most business owners would tell you that we live a very different life as opposed to the 9 to 5 worker. I’ve slept on job sites, worked 18 to 20 hour days and nights, I’ve taken the suit off after a day at the office just to put the t-shirt and jeans on to crawl under a house. I feel that the obstacles and challenges we sometimes face are the ones we actually place there ourselves.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Insulation Guru – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Insulation Guru installs insulation, radiant barrier, weatherization and ventilation systems in homes, businesses and warehouses. We are a full service energy efficiency co. Our approach to the house and business is what I consider to be the best of the best. When it comes to the estimate I believe that seeing the project is key. Every attic has its own personality, just like every home and business owner has different needs. Our weatherization program (Making the air quality in homes and businesses cleaner) is second to none. We’ve also managed to hit the 50% mark in lowering utility bills in most cases. We’ve become one of the first companies in the United States to install the insulation and radiant barrier hybrid in homes and businesses. This is lowering utility bills to the point where customers are telling us that their A/C is running the way it is supposed to.

When I go look at a potential project I need to see, feel and understand what is happening and what is needed. We treat your home and business as if we lived and worked there. Making sure that you get what you want and that it is done right.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I’m pushing for controlled growth. I would like to see the Insulation Guru lead the way in the energy efficiency and energy conservation industry. We’re gearing up to continue our insulation and radiant barrier installation of larger structures. We’ve just recently partnered with an International company to keep 5 tons of waste materials out of the Houston Landfills, I’m still amazed at the opportunities that our company and other companies have when it comes to cleaner indoor air quality (Which also helps outdoors), helping people save money (Which promotes happiness and the economy), and the overall industry. Insulation Guru plans to continue to tap into the new and innovative ways to help others in this industry.
