Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephen, Janie, and Lauren Plant.
Stephen, Janie, and Lauren, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
This all started after we purchased our ranch in Cleveland, Texas over four years ago.
Steve was in the HVAC industry for 26 years and has always wanted his own business. Our daughter Lauren thought of the idea of building a wedding venue at our ranch. Steve has always liked old western movies and John Wayne. This was his inspiration! We had existing buildings which we used to turn into a western town. The pole bar was turned into the pavilion area. What used to be a tool shed is now a huge brides room.
Lastly, we used a storage shed and turned it into a grooms room. All the buildings are full size! Many people can’t believe how big they are until they see it in person. We have a nice pond next to the pavilion area with a fountain that lights up at night. We have lights on top of all the buildings, and you are able to see the outline of the town from the road. We’ve done many renovations in the last two years.
We added a catering/serving area, we moved the bar inside the pavilion area, and we added stonework to the main entrance along with huge cedar columns. We feel extremely blessed, and we are proud of all the changes we’ve made in the last few years. The entrance makes a statement, and our clients are very pleased with the upgrades. We do not plan to stop now! We want to continue to add new features to our venue and eventually add air conditioning to the pavilion.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This was definitely not a smooth transition. We set a budget, and we went way over that. We had no idea what we were getting into.
SJP Ranch – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Our venue hosts all types of events, but we mainly host weddings. We have a beautiful outdoor area where our couples get married in. Our upgrade to the pavilion area is what we are most proud of. The entrance and new doors make a huge impression on our clients!
We feel that our hospitality sets us apart from the rest. We’ve been told time and time again how “comfortable” people feel here and how they just love the peacefulness. We make many friends, and it feels like family.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Revealing our new entrance to the pavilion area. We received so many wonderful comments on the upgrades which always makes us feel great! Seeing our clients happy makes us happy!!
