Meet Casey Miller of Elevate Grace in Heights

Today we’d like to introduce you to Casey Miller.

Casey, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Where I am today is a single mom of two beautiful boys, Aiden and Ashton, and full-time stylist behind the chair at GP Salon located in Houston Heights. In addition to those full-time jobs I’ve been able to create a non-profit charity I’d always dreamed of, in 2018 Elevate Grace, a charity that gives free dry haircuts to those in need was born.

Elevate Grace had been in my heart for a long time, certain life events including the sudden loss of my late husband in 2017 led me to believe that I had to bring it to life. I know that without the help of my loving family and friends I could have easily been the one in need. I am so blessed to have this support in my life and the ability to help others.

I have always given back since a young age, I watched my late mother Berly bring the nationwide Relay for Life to Lincoln California and create the Berly’s Heroes team that is still going strong today and has raised over $100,000.00 to date. The joy my mother found in giving has always been an example to follow!

Since becoming a hairdresser in 2014, I have found the ability to work with my hands and give someone a new perspective of confidence in themselves is the greatest gift I can give. After reaching out to several colleagues who gave back in different ways including one of my mentors, Gabriel Perez, I decided to create a charity that brings hairdressers together to provide free dry haircuts once a month to those in need.

Any hairdresser is welcome to come and serve. This has been an amazing way to connect with others in my industry who have a heart to give. We get together every third Monday of each month at my church Grace United Methodist Church in the Heights from 3-6pm.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has actually been so smooth! Any struggles we’ve had have been the logistics of setting up stations in unconventional locations. However, I quickly realized there were so many people in my industry willing to pitch in, give back with their time and talents.

Timing has been everything when I decided to follow Gods path for this ministry everything seemed to fall into place naturally. It has assured me that I’m doing what I am supposed to be doing.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Elevate Grace – what should we know?
We are known for giving haircuts to men, women, and children in need. Our goal is to give someone respect, care, and confidence at a time they may need a helping hand. As hairdressers, we experience the transformative power a great haircut can do.

We get to see the difference in how someone carries themselves when they feel confident about how they look. We believe a haircut can change someone’s life, we pray it does.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Just being able to show empathy. To have that servant’s heart and want to identify with all of the people we are helping.
