Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Zelaya.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I have always loved the arts in all its forms. My favorite classes in school were writing (mostly for the poetry), art (although I couldn’t draw at all), and dance. Music is a huge part of my life as well. I grew up wanting to work in one of these fields, but ended up choosing something safer and easier to do. Although I love my job, it felt like something was missing in my life. That’s when I started to follow art and photography pages on Instagram and eventually, I bought my first camera.
Please tell us about your art.
My love for photography began about seven years ago. After I bought my first camera, my friend and I would hang out and plan concept photoshoots using my sister as my model. I was very inspired by fashion magazines, so each photoshoot I planned would have a slight editorial style to it. I kept practicing until I felt comfortable enough to offer my services to other people. That is the beginning of Urban Allure Photos.
Fast forward to today, I still use that same editorial style in my photos and use that to help my clients feel confident. Many people shy away from taking photographs, including myself, so my goal is to inspire confidence in everyone I photograph helping them realize the images of them are actually art.
Choosing a creative or artistic path comes with many financial challenges. Any advice for those struggling to focus on their artwork due to financial concerns?
Choosing a creative career does come with financial challenges, but it is worth it in the end. If things are looking to be harder than you can manage, take a break but don’t give up. Always remember your love for your art and come back to it if you ever have to stop due to financial struggles.
