Meet Lisa Ventress of The Ventress Firm, P.C. in Bay Area

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Ventress.

Lisa, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I can honestly say becoming an attorney was a childhood dream. I would say be second or third grade I was pretty much set on what I wanted to do professionally. I don’t have anyone in my immediate group of family or family friends who are attorneys. At the time, what I knew about being an attorney, I learned through my own research.

Actually, that learning process never ends. Once I understood the educational requirements for becoming an attorney, I focused on going to college, then law school and then taking the bar exam. I worked as an intern, legal assistant, law clerk, and in E-Discovery, and in-house for a medical which all helped in with various skills sets needed in launching my own law firm.

I’ve always known I was meant to be my own boss because I wanted to be in control of how I offer legal services to clients. This way, I can make the process of hiring me as attorney less of an intimidating and expensive process for clients.

That’s why The Ventress Firm, P.C. was born. It’s a boutique law firm where my mission is to provide legal services to clients that encourage empower, educate them in business.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Business is never a smooth road, but the key is to be able to pivot as necessary. There’s always something new to learn. Each client has their own needs and personality, so I take that into consideration when managing expectations and tailoring their legal experience which provides a high standard of representation. My firm is a small operation, sometimes it can be difficult to get clients to understand the value of working with a smaller firm.

Specifically the fact that the client is more often than not, dealing directly with an attorney versus an arsenal of assistants and paralegals; and the cost savings can be significant because a smaller firm does not have as much overhead and that can result in significant cost savings to clients.

The Ventress Firm, P.C. – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
The Ventress Firm, P.C. is a boutique law firm helping clients creatively see business from a legal global perspective. My practice areas include Copyrights, Trademarks, Business, and ERISA – Healthcare Claims. I want to develop a relationship with my clients where they know I want their business and their lives to thrive. To do that, I try to create a professionally congenial atmosphere of trust.

The practice of law is deeply rooted in tradition. However, technology is turning almost every industry on its head. I always tell people, “we have to find creative ways to do traditional things.” This includes the practice of law.

The things that makes me proud as a company and which also sets me apart is that: I am not afraid to be creative or think beyond the black suit and white walls. I understand that a singular way of operating, without diversity, does not represent all demographics of potential clients.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success to me is the ability to make an impact rather than impress. I am looking to enhance the lives of people in which I come in contact.

This includes personal and professional relationships. When I provide legal services to clients, I want them to appreciate the care and consideration I give to their matter, as well as to them.

Being able to set and reach goals that impact lives is for me the true definition of success.
