Check out Lindsay Vaughan’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsay Vaughan.

Lindsay, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I got my very first camera when I was about ten years old, a little blue digital camera, which I took with me practically everywhere. I took photos of everything from my dog to the flowers in my backyard. When I was about to turn eleven, my family moved from Houston, Texas, to Alberta, Canada, which was a major change for me. I stopped taking photos for a while but picked it back up when I got my first DSLR camera a few years after moving to Canada. I took photos of my horses, the mountains, and just about anything outside. About three years ago my family moved back to The Woodlands, Texas, and from then on I have dedicated myself to telling the stories of others through my images. I never really took photos of people in Canada, but I fell in love with portrait and couple photography when I did my very first session with some friends of mine here in Houston. God has given me a huge passion for wedding photography, not just because it is insanely fun, but because I am capturing images that are going to hang on my client’s walls for the rest of their lives. They are going to show those images to their kids, grandkids, and their grandkids will show them to their kids. How crazy amazing is that?

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do? Why? And what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I am a couple photographer that strives to capture images that tell a story. Sure, most every photographer says that, because it is a super catchy phrase, but it is completely true! I want to capture images of my clients that spark emotions. I want them to look at their photos and remember what that moment of time was like, and remember what they felt. I want other people who don’t even know the people in the photo to feel the emotion and to see the story in the photo.

It’s all good and easy to say that, but I find that it is honestly pretty difficult to create such a photo, simply because you have to be incredibly fast to catch a moment and to spark those moments with your clients. The emotions have to be raw and real for them to show in the photo, which means that as a photographer I can’t just say to my client, “hey, go ahead and kiss,” because that isn’t going to create emotion. Instead, it will end up just being awkward. Instead, I have to remind them of their love for each other. For example, one thing that I find really sparks emotion between my couples is asking them to whisper in each other’s ears what they love most about each other!

How can artists connect with other artists?
Being a full-time artist is definitely lonely since we don’t really have that office atmosphere. Most of us are at home for the majority of our time creating art, or working at a wedding or other shoot. Facebook is huge for me because I am apart of multiple photography groups where we are always sharing our work and building each other up. I also really enjoy collaborating with other wedding vendors, so going to bridal shows and styled shoots are really fun!

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
I try to put my work pretty much everywhere, especially on social media. Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest are my main pages, and then I am constantly updating my website! One of the biggest things people can do to support me is to share my work with others, and follow my social media!
