Today we’d like to introduce you to Christina Cortez.
Christina, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am one half of Maac Chat I go by “Nia Maac” on air. I am someone obsessed with music and talking lol, so my plan has always been to combine the two. I have always been so Fascinated with so many iconic female radio personalities I would and still do go hours and hours watching old to new interviews. I study this craft like I have no other option.
Most kids, when they’re little love to play doctor or teacher or doll house but me?! … when I was younger I would make my little brother always play “radio” with me. Lol, It’s so funny to think back on now. I would have my little radio, he would be my caller while I took a request and spoke about topics.
I went on to study communications but took a break to pursue doing makeup (which I still do) and fell in love with the art of it. Regardless of what I’ve done in my career radio still tugged at my heart. So I went on to create Maac Chat originally I started it to be a”try out” my plan was to shop clips of me around to different radio stations in hopes of maybe getting an internship or who knows?! But now I’m so happy with the creativity of the show.
I am so forgunate to have an amazing Co-Host Droc (Damond ) who is my best friend and Husband. He is the perfect partner! He keeps me focused and honestly I can’t thank him enough for that! We have so many different business ventures that we’re involved in, but maac Chat is where we can be us! We are truly a great team!
On maac Chat, we give local artists a platform. We keep you updated on all that’s happening in the industry today, and it’s just a fun show! And we always have stories, lol! We love our city so much and honestly that’s why we cherish this podcast so much it’s an opportunity for everyone to be heard. It’s been so fun getting emails from our listeners telling us who they think would be a great guest we’re all for it!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No, it has not been a smooth road, and we know that that just means we are doing the right things. Anything that’ll be worth it to you will never go smoothly and honestly, we have accepted every challenge that comes with that!

What sets our podcast apart from others is we are all about Houston. Our concept is to give local artists not necessarily musically, but you pour positivity into the city we want you on!
We want to give everyone in the city a platform to talk about there craft! We are all about building the city together!

The plan is to help as many artists as possible, and we have some possible tv talk coming soon! We have some great interviews lined up this year, and all the Maac Chatters are going to love what’s in store next!
