Today we’d like to introduce you to Alicia Walker.
Alicia, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
In December of 2017, I made the decision to take a Lash Extension Training Course. I registered for the training not knowing how things would go afterwards, and I was so nervous. After the 8hr course, I felt that this was something that I could do all the time.
Although I had never applied for lash extensions before, I felt like It was a natural talent. I went back to my full-time job (a paralegal at a criminal law firm) and told my coworker about it. She then took the training as well.
I began to practice on my friends and family members after work and on the weekends. I used money that I had saved to open a studio and posted it on all social media outlets. After a few months, business became busy. I was starting to leave work early and take days off to come to my studio and do lashes.
Little did I know that was the beginning of my entrepreneurship. I went to work on a Monday morning and my boss at the time told me that he had to” let me go.” I left there that day and changed my lash schedule from part-time to full time. God never let me struggle during the transition from employee to employer.
I am very grateful and appreciative for all of the support that Houston has shown me.
Has it been a smooth road?
Like any other business, the first year is the year of figuring things out. I have just now adjusted my hours for the last time. I am blessed to say that I haven’t had many struggles.
The only thing that is a slight struggle are the ever-changing products. Products can be a struggle if you don’t know which ones to choose or what works best for your clients.
