Today we’d like to introduce you to Miranda Amézaga.
Hi Miranda, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I am a Mexican-Peruvian actress, model, and indie film producer in the Houston, TX area. I have always enjoyed the fine arts since my elementary school years, participating in a variety of extra curricular such as choir and theatre. I started modeling for a friend of mine during my senior year of high school to help promote his photography business.
Once graduating, I focused on taking acting classes, going out to networking events, and searching for an agent. In the numerous classes I took I had the opportunity to meet many people who have pushed me to become better in my craft, as well as guided me towards bigger opportunities. Currently I am taking classes at Clear Performance Acting Academy with Brian Thornton where we meet on a week to week basis to review our scene work and receive mentorship to work towards becoming our most organic selves in front of the camera.
At the beginning of last year (2024) a group of friends and I were sitting at a table talking over something silly, when we then realized that the topic of discussion could make for a great short film. And so with the idea of writing a script, over several months of meeting, writing, and planning we finalized “Girls Night Out”. Throughout this process my love for the production process grew, I knew that I would want to continue putting together film in the Houston area, and more specifically along side Ceion Scott and Carmen Reeves, my fellow producers. After conversation with the girls, realizing that we all shared a common goal and passion “Girls Night Out Productions” was formed, in homage to our first film that will be completed this summer.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No road is ever truly smooth, thankfully all the obstacles I have faced along the way have been easy hurdles to overcome. The support system that surrounds me has made it possible for me to easily over come them. Regardless of which direction things may be heading at any given time, I know there is at least one person who I can reach out to for whatever it may be.
Unfortunately as a Latina woman, in her early 20s, there have been people who undermine what I am capable of accomplishing, and don’t realize my true strengths. My passion for the arts has always allowed me to be head strong and determined to what I want to do, and so with that I have been able to push above and beyond to become successful in creating film, and acting in them.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Since I started acting in the fall of 2022, I am proud to say that I have had the opportunity to act along side friends, and make many along the way. Some of the projects that I am most proud of are, “Superpower”, which one first place at the “Raise the vote” festival last year (2024), “Wrong Digits”, “Rose Colored”, “Ideal Place”, and of course “Girls Night Out”.
“Girls Night Out” is a project that I hold very dear to my heart, it brought together new friendships, and presented opportunities for me in ways that I wouldn’t have imagined when I first began. At the beginning of my acting journey I solely saw myself as an actress, but now I am proud to say that I am an actress, writer, and producer.
Under “Girls Night Out Productions” my team and I worked diligently on our second short, “Please take off your shoes and never leave” a cine poetry short for Public Poetry “Location Houston” film festival. The intention of this festival was the join poets and filmmakers together to bring a piece of poetry to life. After screening our film at Location Houston in April, the film made a second debut at the Aurora Picture Show Extremely Short Film Festival in May.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
The film scene is an ever-growing industry, there are endless amounts of people who have the passion for creating. Within the next 5-10 years I see the scene growing in Houston, way more than what it currently is, expanding to more than just commercials. I hope to see the market across Texas expand as well as there are many major cities with hungry artists such as Austin TX, as well as many beautiful sights that have been yet to be captured on the big screen.
