Today we’d like to introduce you to Tattoos by Raychill
Hi Raychill, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Growing up, I was always with a paper and pen. My mom made sure to always keep something in her purse for me to draw on at any given moment. Later to find out I was foreshadowing my own future, I would play pretend “tattoo shop” in elementary school on the playground. I would pretend to charge people in exchange for me drawing on them with markers. Fast forward 20-something years and here I am, doing what I love as a professional Tattoo Artist. I went through life’s ups and downs, went from graphic design to bartending, but 5 years ago I was finally able to quit my job in the service industry and focus solely on my career as a Tattoo Artist, the best decision I ever made.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Is anyone’s personal life really that smooth? Well, maybe, but mine wasn’t and that was due to my own accord. However, when I had my son, that really turned my life around and made me get serious about my life and where I was going. I’m so grateful to have an extremely supportive family who helped me when I decided to quit my job to focus on tattooing full time and more recently, an amazing supportive husband who’s been there for me and helped me with the daily ins and outs of being an entrepreneur. I recently underwent surgery on my spine due to a herniated disk so the physically straining side of tattooing has probably been my biggest struggle as of recent but I haven’t stopped truckin’ along!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a professional Tattoo Artist in the Houston/ Katy area. I specialize in Color tattoos and Embroidery tattoos. I would say my specialty technique is the Embroidery/ Patch looking tattoos. I literally make them look like a stitched patch. I know not many artists specialize in this style and I am proud to say I am one of the few that does. I know awards won are not a necessary part of being a “good” tattoo artist. But I love competing at tattoo conventions locally and across the nation and am very proud of myself for winning quite a few awards going against some incredibly talented artists.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson I’ve learned throughout my journey is to set boundaries. Don’t let anyone treat you lesser than and don’t allow people to disrespect you, your art, or your business. Opinions are one thing, but once you lower your worth to fit someone else’s expectations, you set yourself up to being walked over again and again. Once you let those people weed themselves out, you end up with the absolute best clients, co-workers, and people in your life in general.
