Today we’d like to introduce you to Shana Charell.
Hi Shana, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I grew up singing and performing with my family group. We performed locally and put on events in our home town of Buffalo, NY and all around the United States.
In Highschool I wrote and recorded my first solo EP of instrumental music on piano.
After High school I went on to graduate from Schreiner University with a Bachelors of Arts in Vocal Performance.
Since graduating I began my solo career as a vocalist and song writer. I am now a featured vocalist on the song “Telepathy” by Universal Music Group artist CThree as well as an in house songwriter and A&R consultant for 3rd Eye Tribe Entertainment out of Las Angeles, California
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Music is my life’s calling and I’m grateful to have been doing it my entire life. However just like life the road isn’t always smooth.
My biggest challenge has always been internal. Many people would tell me how talented I am and how much they connected to the music I make, but at the end of the day if you don’t believe in yourself and your ability to succeed then you’ll never put the effort in that it truly takes to be successful.
I had to build the confidence I have in myself now brick by brick, but it was definitely worth all the effort that I put in!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
One of the greatest joys that I have as an artist is creating original works as a songwriter and composer.
When I write I love to talk about the experience of being human and alive on this earth. Hope, heartbreak, spirituality, love and connection (and more) are all topics that I get to explore from my perspective and the perspective of the people who trust me with their stories.
The music I make has the special quality of helping people connect with others, with nature, with themselves and with things that go beyond just the material world. And I feel that’s one of the most special things about me as an artist nd the music that I make.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Absolutely!
Firstly I want to thank my parents, who are both artists themselves for seeing my potential as an artist and helping me to grow it! For always encouraging my obsession with finding the secrets that music held for me, no matter how many times you had to listen to me play that song!
I’d have to thank my Grandmother as well, Irma Riles, for not only allowing me to discover and expand my love for music on her piano, but for nurturing me as a person as well. She’s not here in the physical anymore but her spirit guides and encourages even today.
I’d like to give credit to Dr. Donald Crandall and Mr. Michael Kahn, my music instructors from Schreiner University. They worked diligently with me for the 4 years I spent in school helping me to further develop and refine my musical abilities. I would not be the same artist that I am today without them.
Lastly, I absolutely have to make sure I thank and give credit to Eric McElroy Jr. aka CThree for having me as the featured vocalist on his most recent single “Telepathy” and for also creating an opportunity for me to cover new ground in my music career as an A&R and signed artist at his label 3rd Eye Tribe Entertainment.
