Today we’d like to introduce you to Kathy Adibe Iwueke, Esq.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Sure, I attended and graduated from Thurgood Marshall School of Law. While in law school, I was an active member in student organizations and I held the position as President of the highly active Civil Rights Law Society (CRLS). Before attending law school, I was a Housing Manager for Goodwill Industries of Houston where I helped homeless Veterans become self-sufficient by obtaining housing by offering case management and supportive services and also conducted home inspections and visits.
I founded Adibe Law Group in 2019 shortly after passing the bar. I thought I would work as a prosecutor for a few years and then go into private practice, however, God had other plans for me. The woman you are looking at today, is the same woman from 2019 but with way more confidence in her field. It took many sleepless nights and perfecting my work ethic to thrive and be successful, but I have arrived!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road to success is never smooth, there will always be obstacles along the way. I struggled with believing I could actually achieve success if I remained focused. I failed the bar on my first attempt, and that propelled my self-doubt about if I would actually be successful as an attorney. I remember I used to tell myself, “Michelle Obama failed the bar on her first attempt too” and that is what motivated me to keep pushing myself and to quiet any self-doubt in my mind. It’s natural to compare your journey to others but comparison is the thief of joy.
We’ve been impressed with Adibe Law Group, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I founded Adibe Law Group with the goal of creating a firm that focused on helping others. My law firm handles a variety of personal injury cases from 18-Wheeler Accidents, Slip and Falls, Car Accidents and more. We are not intimidated or afraid of fighting for the rights of our clients to ensure they receive exceptional representation and maximum compensation. I am most proud of two things: (1) that my law firm has recovered millions of dollars in settlements for our clients because that demonstrates that we care about our clients’ needs and concerns and we will keep fighting until we have a successful outcome and (2) My law firm is generous with helping underserved communities in Houston and providing scholarships to black women in academics.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memory was during summertime, my family and I would go to the pool and just have fun listening to music, splashing around, hanging with the neighbors, and eating food. Those were stress free times I often wish I could rewind and enjoy again.
