Today we’d like to introduce you to Endee Umoh.
Endee, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started the idea of forming a band around the middle of 2020. My whole life I was surrounded by rock music thanks to my older siblings. Growing up in that environment helped develop a skill for songwriting and music overall. It was while in quarantine I wrote and composed most of The Halfpipes songs out of boredom. Looking back, I never knew I would be in the position I am today from a few songs I created on my laptop with a $200 guitar.
It was around February 2021, The Halfpipes were truly formed. It all started through an instagram group chat where I met my soon to be bandmates: Gabe, Kobe, Diego, and Shoelace. We all had various musical experience yet the same idea for what we wanted The Halfpipes to be. Our sound over time evolved to a cross between thrash and surf punk. As well as our high energy riffs and rhythm that made us standout amongst the slowly awakening Houston underground punk scene.
We had first show at a skate park that gained us a lot of attention from various promoters and bands which led to us having our breakout show in May called: Embrace The Chaos. That show truly was a significant moment in my life, being on stage in front of 200+ fans screaming your bands name that only formed months prior is what dreams are made of.
After that show we steadily gained more followers, received more offers, and improved our sound and craft. We eventually got scouted and signed to a record deal with Street Noise Productions. We released two singles that did really well for our local audience and it only helped us gain more fans and followers globally. We’re planning on releasing a debut album around the summer of 2022.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t always been smooth though. I dropped out of college around the time I decided I wanted to pursue music and I had to invest tons of cash into things like shows, photography, transportation, and gear.
I also had to deal with the occasional mental struggle. Constantly asking myself if i’m wasting my time, questioning if i’m good enough to be a front man, and the insecurities that come with putting yourself out there. Over time I learned that the mind will always find a way to limit you but it’s your heart that truly gives you the passion and drive to follow your dreams and silence out the noise.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am the vocalist/frontman/creator of the band known as The Halfpipes.
One of the more popular bands coming out of the Houston Underground Punk Scene. I would say what really sets us apart is our style and energy. Not only do we physically embody the look of what you’d expect a punk band to look like but we also take pride in making our songs with the intention of moshing and overall having a good time.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
Personally, I’d say all the rock bands that predated us: Dead Kennedys, Minor Threat, Metallica, and others.
Also, all our family and friends who have supported us from the beginning.
