Today we’d like to introduce you to April Dixon.
Hi April, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
My name is April Dixon; I am from Birmingham, AL, born and raised. I started to learn about computers in the 10th grade; I graduated from ITT Technical Institute with Associate of Applied Science in Computer Electronics Engineering of Technology and Bachelor of Science in Electronics and Communication Engineering of Technology. While in college, I was able to apply for jobs in Technology. During that time, I become Independent IT Field Technician contractor working for companies such as Dell, IBM, HP, and Visio in different industries. I started my business in around 2007 – 2008 when I received the contract with Visio. The requirements of the contract required business license, insurance, and business bank account in which Dixon Technology was born. As a business owner, I have learned many lessons about starting over to how to rebrand your business with different types of products, and being more customer-focused. I started learning how to fix iPhone when my cousin by the name of Kennedy Sims wanted to pay money to have the color of her iPhone changed from white. I was able to find the parts and changed the colors from white to purple and white. Dixon Technology is computer and mobile device repair company that provides services such as: repairing crack screen on iPhone or resolving issues with computer performance all while being mobile. Since I have rebranded my business Dixon Technology, I have been featured on Grow with Google and influencers for the most recent Pig Roast, where scholarships were given out to the Hispanic community through HICA (Hispanic Interest Coalition of Alabama). I also over the Media at The Turning Point Ministries where I help the media team to grow from just going live to implementing Social Media videos and keeping the church social media page up to date. Currently, I am also helping a church in Leeds, AL to bring their media ministry up to date with digital marketing. My Goal is to gain contracts with different companies such as Dell, IBM, and HP to hire people to do short-term or long-term projects and Dixon Technology to become a global brand.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not all been a smooth road; I have experienced some setback, one being that once I graduated from college, I had to enter the real world by obtaining a job working for At&t troubleshooting DSL over the phone, all while still trying to run a technology business. At one point, I had stopped to focus on my career in technology as an employee, and my schedule wouldn’t allow it. Not only that, but I did not have the knowledge I have now versus back then. I have been learning about entrepreneurship as I am going; it took for me to gain a mentor by the name of Gilberto Herrera to learn about digital marketing and focusing on what the customer wants and how the customer buys. Another setback was one of my contracts wasn’t paying me on time, which caused me to how to really get a job. I was losing more money in gas and time versus when I did get paid, I was just breaking even. It was a conflict in my work schedule versus when contract jobs were being passed out. I had to find a way to still have my own business by redirecting myself to work on computers and iPhone and tablet repair at my own convenience. What made me start back up is I went to church, and Apostle John Cobb II stated God told him I have a business, and I need to start the business back up; my business is going to go Global, and that I am a future mogul. I am going to speaker of Millionaires people are going to want to hear about I have obtain wealth in the near feature. Right now, my current challenge is working as professional IT Senior Helpdesk Analyst for a bank all while managing business, school, and home life with time management and being able to stay consistence.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?

Any big plans?
My plan for the future is create package deals for technology needs, for example, monthly subscription, and work with companies to gain contracts with businesses to provide services for an IT helpdesk and IT Projects for long-term or short-term periods. I am also wanting to have a system in place to manage quotes when people want to know how much a certain service cost. Also, I am in school to get my Comptia certifications to help improve my knowledge in technology to pair with experiences.
