Daily Inspiration: Meet Katrina Scott

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katrina Scott.

Hi Katrina, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
The company is completely owned and operated by myself (Katrina) and my daughters who supply unprocessed 100% virgin hair extensions, wigs, lashes, and much more. Founded on September 30, 2019, the main purpose of this brand is to make all shades of women feel beautiful while putting on our luxury human hair extensions and wigs.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When we initially interviewed with Voyage Houston in the beginning of 2020. It was a struggle! From getting people to know about us, try our products, branding and more. We still have some obstacles to overcome as any business would. However, it’s progressing very well. The past years have been learning experiences along with trial and error.

Now as we have entered 2022 it has been much more smoother.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Many ppl do not know that I still work for someone other than myself. I actually work in healthcare and have been for the past 20 years. I currently work at a Children’s Hospital in Houston full time.

I also work on my business full time. I work everyday from 5am to midnight. Between my job and myself. You have to always put just as much effort into your own business. And I do that and more. Don’t be fooled by watching others. Do what’s best for you!

I get orders processed, shipped, answer emails, send emails, brand my business, weekly meetings, return calls and more for my own business.

Some people didn’t know I was still working for someone and others asking how I do it. I mean don’t let anyone tell you just quit. You quit when God says so. I feel my sales are not what I want them to be on a consistent monthly basis. But it’s more each year so we are getting there.

I have a Marketing team as well that does their part to make Shades of Melanin Hair greater.

My prayer is to be working for my business only by the end of 2022. If that’s God’s plan. I pray and he moves accordingly.

I have donated wigs to a couple of cancer organizations and single moms. Being a single mom most of my daughter’s life I know the struggle. I was homeless before amongst other things. So I’m always trying to help single mothers. I’ve had cancer survivors in my family and some that were not. So I understand that aspect as well.

And a women’s crown is very important to us. So I chose to donate to make women feel better and beautiful. It’s the small things that counts. I don’t broadcast everything I do for others. God sees and my blessings come from that. And that’s all that matters.

Anything that can brighten a woman’s day makes me feel good to see her smile.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I would like to Thank my Marketing team at FIPRM.

I always credit my husband Jamal, my children, mother and grandmother for being so open-minded, supportive and dealing with me being so busy. At the end of the day, I’m trying my hardest to build generational wealth.

It’s so much on my goal list. The majority of it is ways to help others and give back!
