Daily Inspiration: Meet Mink Jawandor

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mink Jawandor

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I wrote my book based on what me, my young friends’, families and people in my community experienced in the Blood Diamond war that was fought in Sierra Leone and my book was also inspired by the movie itself Blood Diamond because as brilliant that movie was, I and many people in the Sierra Leone community around the world did not saw ourselves in it. So therefore, this was part of my inspiration to write a book and tell our stories for the world to hear.

The stories in my book project can compare to movies like The Beast of no Nation starring Idris Elba, The Blood Diamond starring Leonardo De Capio, Tears of the Sun starring Bruce Willis or can be run as a Netflix Series, Amazon Prime or Peacock and this feedback comes from people that have recently read my book in my community and beyond.
My Book is Titled; Once Upon a Time in Freetown (1996-1999) subtitled We Want Peace. (A camouflage cover page with a burning house in front) currently available on Amazon. This is when the war officially entered into the City of Freetown that drew the attention of the world to our country Sierra Leone.

This book told actual stories in detail about how young youth cope with the bad actors inside of a war, how the government fell apart with the national army of the country and how the national army turned against the country and how children are born inside of wars and parents still manage to raise their kids and teach them cultural activities inside of a war and discussed in detail the despicable atrocities caused by act of the rebels and so much more in chronological order from 1996 to 1999.

To promote my book project, I have done interviews with national radio stations in Sierra Leone, I went to Washington DC last week attend a Sierra Leone Diaspora investment conference, did an interview at VOA in DC, and continue to promote my project on social media and have also written letters to universities suggesting that my book will be a good resource to use in courses like African Studies, World Politics, World Peace, etc.

I would like the opportunity for you and your company to grant me an opportunity for an interview to promote my project and am open to any ideas you have to help amplify this book into anything beautiful.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It is great experience am learning as I go and in this short period of time it has been interesting.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m Schoolteacher in Houston TX, am into academia (education), I am known for my community service, am proud of helping to educate young people and I believe that set me apart from others because it takes a special type of individual to teach.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Patience & Perseverance
