Today we’d like to introduce you to Tasha Grissett.
Hi Tasha, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
U R Royalty stems from a long-cherished mother-daughter tradition of getting mani/pedis with my daughter on a regular basis. Back when my daughter and I lived in the North Houston suburb, we loved being pampered together and I appreciated the fact that they took great care of her, treated her well, and gave her the true pampering experience she deserved.
However, since moving to a different area, I see many salons focus only on the task at hand when instead, they should be focusing on creating a delightful experience tailored to each and every guest. We have set a brand new standard in salon care by providing upscale beauty services to all of our neighbors at affordable prices to help them feel and look as beautiful as they truly are. We believe in giving everyone their own Royal Experience, Royal Treatment, and Royal service. We have operated as a nail salon for one year however, with my background in medicine, 18 years as a Certified Physicians Assistant, working in Emergency Rooms, Urgent Cares, Hospital medicine and aesthetics, I have decided to utilize my skills and background by providing high-quality beauty and health services. So in addition to nail salon and spa services, we have transitioned to a Med Spa with nail services. We offer Wrinkle reducers (Botox and Jeuveau), facial and lip fillers as well as IV hydration therapy with vitamins and minerals that assist with weight loss, immune system boosters, energy and endurance, as well as some that assist with focus, skin health, and general well-being. We offer Foot Reflexology. We have an Esthetician who offers facials and body and face waxing services.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been everything but smooth. My husband acted as my general contractor as we built the empty parcel into the salon you see today. We finally completed it and opened in June 2021. As we were marketing and trying to build, he and our children were in the salon most of the time while I worked. In August of 2021, our family became ill with COVID 19 and a few nail techs as well, so we closed the salon for a few weeks, however, my husband did not recover, he passed away 9/20/2021. However, even while he was ill, two days before he went into the hospital he was determined to by some signage and other marketing items for the salon. He put so much into getting it up and running, that is why I am more determined than ever to keep it going. We have also had challenges with staffing. I have found that the turnover rate in this industry is higher than average. So my nephew, Joshua, who is also the manager and reflexologist, just completed school to become a manicurist and he handles the hiring and training of nail technicians while I will handle the Med Spa services.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a Certified Physician Assistant, I graduated from Duke University with a MHS in Physician Assistant Studies, I have worked in multiple areas of medicine but spent most of my time in Emergency Rooms. I am known for being very driven, I am a Christian and my family and I attend Christian meetings 2 days a week. I love teaching and talking with my children and anyone who will listen about the bible and Jehovah. I am most proud of my role as a mother and being a faithful servant of God and being a role model for my children. I think what sets me apart from others is that I am very good at compartmentalizing and focusing on and being fully committed to the task at hand. When I am taking care of or speaking with someone, I like for them to feel as though they have my full attention and that their concerns are the most important at that moment because they are. Another thing that sets me apart from others is that I am very resilient and I don’t allow a bad day or experience to permanently shape me or anything that I do. I always try to find the good in a situation even if it’s just that the experience has made me stronger emotionally and more aware of possible pitfalls, I never dwell on the negative aspects of any situation I try to grow from the bad and the good. Another thing that may set me apart is that I hold integrity and honesty very close to my heart, even when it doesn’t seem as though being honest will work in my favor, I stay the course of integrity and wait patiently while doing all I can to work through a situation and more times than not it works out for the best.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
The bad luck with the loss of my husband led my nephew, who is now my manager and reflexologist, to move here from AZ and take on the roles he has which is helping us to grow, it has also helped me to think outside of the box and leave my comfort zone and grow the business into a Med Spa by offering more health and beauty services.
