Today we’d like to introduce you to Hailey Kolbe.
Hailey, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
After working as a Registered Nurse on a stroke unit for two years, I took a leap of faith and pivoted by career to interior design. With no assurances in sight except the prompting I felt from The Lord, I left nursing to take more than half of a pay cut to work as a sales associate in a window treatment company, where I was also given the opportunity to dabble in furnishing design. One year later a local interior design firm recruited me to be a full-time designer on staff. I worked there for three years gaining experience in luxury full-service design in both residential and commercial new construction, remodels, merchandising and retail.
In 2019 with another prompting from The Lord I resigned to pursue my own interior design firm, Hailey Kolbe Design. However, it was never my intention at the beginning of my career to start my own design firm as I believed, “I only wanted to design.” That continues to prove untrue today as HKD turned six this past May and my favorite part of running a design firm is actually the business side of things. It was a beautiful and refining process to arrive here though. I leaned into my faith in Jesus to reveal the desires of my heart I thought I knew best. Little did I know, He truly knew me better than I knew myself.
Today, Hailey Kolbe Design provides luxury full-service design for both residential new construction and remodels along with full-service furnishing projects for new and repeat clients. We recently built a design studio in 2023 for our growing team. We currently have a Senior Designer, and a college intern every semester along with myself as the owner and Principal Designer.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
While I wouldn’t describe the path here as smooth, I would also not say it was a struggle. One of the greatest teachers in life is experience and the four years prior to opening up my own business taught me more than money could buy. It was such a gift to work for people who not only believed in me but allowed me to fail from time to time so I could learn hard lessons without real risk. Most importantly my former bosses taught me to not be surprised by the challenges but face them head on and have no perspective different than, “I know there is a solution to this problem.” Hands down the most challenging thing about running a business is how to grow and when to grow while taking on more projects but still maintaining high touch services.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Hailey Kolbe Design is set apart in our local community by my decade of experience as well as the 15+ years of experience our Senior Designer, Alley Matarrita, brings to the table. However, we are most known for the luxury service we provide our clients from start to finish and that we are excited to take on many different aesthetics. Our portfolio speaks for itself, but we truly desire your home to be a beautiful representation of you and your family. We have achieved that goal as many clients have told us their friends and family have walked in for the first time and stated, “Wow! This really looks like you!” Hailey Kolbe Design strives to maintain a reputation of excellent service and an outstanding product that truly represents our clients.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
Houston is incredibly resourceful when it comes to design and not to mention the food is wonderful. Of course, no one likes the traffic.
