Exploring Life & Business with Vandhana Ramamoorthy of Vibrant Rainbow Gardens

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vandhana Ramamoorthy

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have been gardening in the Houston area for 10+ years . I have loved gardening ever since I was a kid , growing vegetables , herbs & flowers . We had & still have huge fruit trees in our yard back in my childhood home. Moving to Houston after grad school , I had a tiny apartment garden where I tried growing my very own tomatoes . I barely had one fruit to show for it . I started reading about gardening & experimenting with seed starting , transplanting, seed saving , composting & even growing my own microgreens to mushrooms . Name a garden trend & I have probably tried it at some point. It’s a labor of love to be able to hold and savor something you grew in your own garden and sharing the bounty with loved ones. I wanted to share my experience & help others get their feet wet in gardening. It’s truly a mindfulness practice that brings calmness amidst all the chaos.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Of course not. I am a busy working mom of two, and I try to balance my time between my research scientist career and my gardening practice. It has taken me a lot of time and energy to learn to adapt my gardening techniques and tools to the ever changing Houston weather, recover and thrive after hurricanes & ice storms and learn to jump through the hoops of setting up my garden consulting business service. My family’s support has meant a lot over the past several years, it truly takes a village.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Vibrant Rainbow Gardens ?
I started Vibrant Rainbow Gardens as a means to help a beginner or a seasoned gardener create a successful, sustainable customized organic garden based on their individual needs . I also offer tailored coaching sessions to help address any challenges that arise , set seasonal goals & tailor a custom plan for the client’s needs . I also offer hands- on group workshops teaching specific topics ( seed starting , herb garden, salad garden ) to gain knowledge & experience to build a thriving garden .

Customization & tailored coaching is where I believe I stand out from most other gardening influencers/ consultants out there. I have lived in all kinds of housing arrangements in and around the Houston area and have successfully grown several rare species of vegetables and fruits using my custom techniques and would love to share the knowledge. I also specialize in creating sustainable soil enrichment, produce cycling and composting systems that sets my clients up for long lasting gardening success.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
My advice for mentorship is to look outside Non- traditional avenues. I have gladly accepted mentorship and advice from many gardeners in the area, while also learning from Instagram gurus from across the world. The sustainability practices and hacks followed in various cultures across the globe are a big source of inspiration and gives me great hopes for the future.
