Today we’d like to introduce you to Angelik Sims.

Angelik Sims

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey into business started with my first company, a boarding home. That experience taught me a lot about responsibility, service, and what it takes to run and sustain a business. From there, I launched a janitorial company, which helped me grow as an entrepreneur and learn the operational side of building and maintaining business relationships.

Along the way, I also worked in banking and later served as a benefits analyst and sales director for a technology firm. Each of those roles added to my understanding of how businesses operate and how financial systems impact individuals, families, and organizations.

Eventually, I decided to pursue my insurance licenses and had the opportunity to learn under mentors who encouraged me to grow within the financial services industry. That experience helped me develop a deeper understanding of the field and ultimately led me to establish my own agency, Premier Insurance Portfolio LC.

Today, I continue building within the insurance and financial services space, where I focus on helping clients understand and access the tools available to protect what they’ve built and plan for the future.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. One of the hardest parts was that I didn’t really have a backup plan. I wasn’t building my business while holding onto a traditional 9-to-5 for security. I stepped fully into entrepreneurship, and that meant figuring things out in real time without a financial cushion to fall back on.

At the same time, I was building this agency in the middle of a divorce while raising two small children. That season required a lot of faith, resilience, and determination. I had my faith in Jesus and people around me who encouraged me along the way, but that didn’t make the journey easy. There were many moments where I had to keep moving forward even when things felt uncertain.

Another challenge was that I made a very intentional decision about how I wanted to structure my agency. In the insurance industry, many agents work under organizations called FMOs (Field Marketing Organizations) or IMOs (Independent Marketing Organizations). These entities typically act as intermediaries between agents and insurance carriers. Instead of building my business that way, I chose to establish direct contracts with carriers through my agency.

That approach required more work in the beginning because I was building those relationships and systems from the ground up. However, it allowed me to stay aligned with the vision I had for my company. I wanted Premier Insurance Portfolio LC to operate as a true brokerage firm one that gives clients access to a wide range of insurance solutions rather than being limited to only one segment of the industry.

Because of that structure, our agency works across multiple areas of insurance. That includes life and health coverage, but also property and casualty products such as homeowners, auto, and liability protection. We also work with businesses that need employee benefits for their W-2 staff, helping them understand options like group health plans and other workplace benefits.

Looking back, building the foundation and growing my book of business from scratch was probably the most challenging part of the journey. I also spent a lot of time investing in others through business consulting and helping bring other people’s visions to life, sometimes putting my own goals on the back burner. But I was determined that no matter what I had to endure, I would establish the agency and not forfeit the ground work.

Over time I found strategies that worked for me, and I leaned heavily on prayer and the guidance of the Holy Spirit to stay focused and keep moving forward. It hasn’t always been easy, but persistence, faith, and consistency have carried me through every stage of the process.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Premier Insurance Portfolio LC operates as a full-service insurance brokerage focused on helping individuals, families, professionals, and businesses access the protection and financial tools they need in one place. What makes our model unique is that we work directly with multiple insurance carriers rather than through intermediary organizations, which allows us to function as a true brokerage. This means our clients are not limited to a single product line or company we are able to evaluate multiple options and help them select coverage that truly fits their needs.

Our agency provides solutions across several major areas of insurance. On the health side, we assist individuals and families with private health insurance, ACA Marketplace plans, Medicare plans, and group health plans for businesses. For employers with W-2 staff, we also help design employee benefit packages that may include group health insurance, group life insurance, and disability coverage so companies can better support and retain their workforce.

In the life insurance space, we work with a range of financial protection and wealth-building tools. These include term life insurance, whole life insurance, universal life, and indexed universal life (IUL) policies. Many clients also work with us to understand how these products can support broader financial planning strategies, including estate planning conversations and the use of trusts.

We also provide property and casualty insurance, which protects both personal and business assets. This includes homeowners insurance, renters insurance, and auto coverage. For professionals and business owners, we assist with commercial and professional policies such as general liability coverage and errors and omissions (E&O) insurance. For example, real estate professionals, consultants, insurance agents, and other licensed professionals often require (E&O) Errors & Omissions coverage to protect their work.

Beyond individual professionals, our agency also works with a wide range of industries that require specialized coverage and employee protection strategies. This includes sectors such as childcare facilities, electrical and plumbing contractors, real estate professionals, small and mid-sized businesses, educational institutions, and organizations connected to state or local government. We also assist first responders and public service professionals, including police officers and other municipal employees, who often need tailored insurance solutions.

What I’m most proud of from a brand perspective is that Premier Insurance Portfolio LC was built with the vision of being a true resource for clients. Rather than focusing on one narrow area of insurance, our goal is to provide access, education, and options across multiple lines of coverage so people can make informed decisions about protecting their families, businesses, and long-term financial goals.

At the core of the brand is education and empowerment. Insurance can be complex, and many people don’t always understand the tools available to them. Our mission is to simplify that process, provide clear guidance, and make sure clients feel confident in the protection strategies they choose.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is the value of staying true to the vision God has given me, even when there are easier or more lucrative paths available. In this industry, I’ve met countless people with far more experience, and many have suggested I take routes that might have seemed simpler joining FMOs or IMOs, or focusing only on life insurance because “that’s where the money is.” And while I understand their perspective and see the logic, I also know that following someone else’s path would take me away from the purpose I feel called to.

I’ve realized that clarity of vision is everything. Money and success will come in their due season, but everything meaningful in life starts somewhere with one person, one idea, one vision, and the courage to see it through. Some of the largest corporations and household names began with just a few people who refused to compromise on their vision. That’s the standard I hold myself to.

Another key realization is that the people giving advice were not there when I received the vision, nor do they fully see the strategy or the full scope of what I am called to build. Because of that, their guidance, while well-intentioned, can be premature if it’s not aligned with the vision I’ve been entrusted with.

So, the most important lesson I’ve learned is to stay focused and not negotiate the vision God has placed in my heart. It requires discipline, faith, and the courage to stand firm even when others try to steer you toward what seems easier or faster. Staying aligned to that vision, above all else, has been the foundation for everything I’m building today.
